I hope they are reading this.

That would be huge, if they had someone called Helen or something monitoring these threads and jumping in to solve problems.

Pondrader, you're killing me! Have you sent your camera back to Canon yet? What's happening?

I feel your pain man... I wish I knew of an alternative, I'd jump ship.
I tried the 1DX, Excellent rig, but it's just too unwieldy in my hands and I do miss the crop.
There is also some pressure on you to produce some spectacular stuff when you strut around with that kind of equipment ! ;-)a

I figured something out this morn, The images look like I was using the 7D not the 7DII At distance the 7DII has a painting affect, Like more detail even when there's not huge detail.
It show's large in some of my images and it seems to be missing in what I'm getting now. you see its so hard to describe. especially to some guy on the other end of the phone.

I went out for a small drive and between two lakes an Eagle was chasing 5 Mallard's and gave up right on the edge of the lake so i got out and walked 20 feet to the edge of the water, he sat in a tree to my left and I was ready,...after the third or fourth shutter click he took off. I thought they were good on the back of the camera and maybe I'm being to critical but I think they should have more detail in the feather. !! The sun was shinning strong and in his face. The heron shot is over twice the distance.

How does one describe what I'm trying to say

I was at 1/2000, f5.6, iso250

ok I shot 400 odd images today mostly blue jays. Canon wants images. The sun was shining and blue sky. This was taken at 9:30am this morning.
Again I imported the images using lightroomCC and with all sliders at zero exported as Jpeg so as to upload them here. first image is full images ( I have around 300 of the blue jay )
the second image is cropped to show the feathers on the breast. These look exactly like the raw file. I know people have been asking for close to raw. As I zoom in in lightroom this is what I see on all of them.

Strange, in the recent shot it almost looks like a moire pattern and it is that bad on the blue feathers that it looks like the barbules are going the wrong way. Maybe you have the only 7D2 without an AA filter. :-)

Definitely not a good look if you are going for detail.

Rod

That's exactly the kind of look I was getting..... the detail disappeared, especially when there is more distance to the subject... like at the 400 mm end of my 100-400 ii.

I am going out tomorrow to a nature preserve so I should know if things are better after Canon adjusted the AF and reinstalled the latest firmware.

Jeff, I know what you mean..... trying to explain what's going on to someone. It's actually simple: we were getting photographs that pleased us and then, we weren't. People try to come up with all kinds of suggestions but the bottom line is, if you've lived with a camera for almost a year and get out regularly, you know what to expect. When that is no longer possible, you know. Plus, you are aware that you aren't doing anything differently so all those suggestions get a bit tiresome over time. It can get a bit frustrating.

Jeff if you don't get satisfaction, I, and I bet everyone else here would be happy to send a letter to the supervising manager of repairs, about your qualifications to get **RAZOR SHARP IMAGES**, prior to you sending it in for repair..

Its sad after three returns, they don't have your camera operating like it did before sending it in for a bad wheel.

Additionally I would try to find out who the regional sales manager for your area, and see if he can help you out.

If they get lots of letters supporting you, and cant get it to work as it did before you sent it in, they need to replace it with a new one that works.

Sounds like there could have been some grimein between the wheel and the underside from use, and the grime stiiffened and eventually loosened up again from use.

Did you hear that Archibald - Canon wants images and I'd send them lots to prove my point that no matter the number it ain't right - fix it. You can view 1, 5 10 or all of them it doesn't matter. You can take 5 minutes, 10 minutes or 1 hr., it doesn't matter it ain't right - fix it.
