Hmm, how about you IT guys go into the firmware code and see what's going on? The Canon Hacker's Development Kit (CHDK) stands ready to help.

I'm not a code guy, but it would just be reverse engineering and it would be extremely difficult to know exactly how the program the code.

Does anyone know which photo websites the Magic Lantern engineers/coders hang out on? I mean they must be into photography to motivate them.

My own assessment of that example image re-lit the ol' 'this camera needs light argument.

I rolled back to 1.04 last night and had a session out and about today. Light was awful when this fight broke out and did not get much better all day but signs are encouraging that 1.04 is working better for me. This is ISO10000.

actually exif says it ISO12800. Really noise for such high iso.

both could use 1.0.6 and a really good tech with a complete understanding of the 7DII, ya the impossible.

Not impossible to get to level 2 or 3 Canon Tech, BUT (and that is a big but) it takes extreme tenacity, insistence, babysitting, and time by you, as well as a sepervisor/manager level Canon person who is willing to take ownership of your issue resolution. The start of the process is to work toward finding this internal Manager, typically found in their customer satisfaction group, not their tech group. This person won't be technical, But would be your mouth piece with the higher level techs. They can authorise temporary loaners as well, as multiple trips still might be likely.

I would definitely understand anyone not willing to take this route. I describe it from personal experience early on with my 7d (orig) and a 24-70 f2.8 mk i. {The issue only happened with that lens and model, but partially due to some of the 7D's AF light wavelength (type of light) sensitivity. I probably spent 50 hours doing the thinking for them, producing the photo samples with specific conditions to refute what they were telling me/towing the line. In the end, I had an incredible 7d, yet forced them to 'admit' that the specs would not work for two orthogonal shooting situations as they said it should. /rantOff}

The 7dii fix for, this softness servo issue hopefully will be as simple as either 1 more trip back with insistence that they do not change 1.04 when adjusting, Or 1.06 with an acknowledged fix for this servo softness scenario.

So these focus issues are not just a problem with the 7Dii, there are many reports of similar issues mentioned here with the 5DS-R:

I have been starting to read those reports as well. Have we reached the limitation of sensor pixels without detriment to other function? Just as we increase shutterspeed, we need to raise I so or open the lens. I'm wondering if the more crowded sensors have reached a limitation without adjusting some other parameter....

Mmmm Yes and No, I don't believe they work within the firmware at all, that would not make any sense at all as you said one firmware update and everything is gone, in my case I would be glad of it but it is not. Honestly I have looked at this thread as an information.. good to know.. posting of the events of those that are having issues. there is no solution find gona happen. From what I've seen canon has no work flow, they cant even tell you what they did, will do , can do, I too have an IT back ground, built the first wireless network that spanned 100s of miles before the days of walking into the store and buying a router. I would love to take a look inside my camera through from the software side. Im not sure kim and I are so far apart, both problems occur will 1.0.5 both had canon tech's working on them ..probably unknowing of any issue with 1.0.5 on the camera, both improved with the install of 1.0.4, both could use 1.0.6 and a really good tech with a complete understanding of the 7DII, ya the impossible.

Man, sell it and go with the X. You will be a little short on focal length, but your blood pressure will return to normal. :p

I forget the name of the firmware where the folks back door Canon's in camera software and install things that Canon did not. Is that available for the 7D2? Would that make a difference?

I've been watching this thread. I don't have the 7D2 but I am a coder and use the Canon SDK (not CHDK) for security apps in the aviation industry.
When you mentioned ML I thought I'd jump in.

First of all there is no ML for the 7D2 yet (at least that I can see.)

I've looked at it for the 7D which I have and it seems that ML is very particular about the firmware version. For example, with the 7D mine came with 2.05 but to run ML I'd need to downgrade to 2.03.

They say ML won't work with 2.05

You can check out the 7D guys on this thread and ask questions if you think that will help.

Did I read that correctly. The tech advised him to use one shot instead of AI Servo for High Speed Continuous shooting?

Hey that looks like the same machine I have.

See, it will be money well spent. Instead of giving it to the doctors, you treat yourself. A win, win.

I feel like I need to ask this question at this point. To those of you who have sent the camera.back several times with no good result, have you demanded a refund or replacement yet? After multiple trips back for the same problem, I think you're well in your right to do that at this point.
