My 2nd arrived yesterday, so I tested it out today. Had my daughter run straight me at in both bright sunlight and back lit conditions. All 1/1600, 5.6, auto ISO. 3-4 shots, pause, 3-4 shots. 8 series.

Never missed a shot. Excellent start with second, although not the fastest Subject but, what I consider the most challenging tracking situation.

What is the serial number of the new body? Was it a big change from the 1st body serial number?

Don't know, I'll check. I did call Adorama and ask Helen to get me one out of another batch and shipment.

Ended up getting that D750 rental early! So I got even more free days to test.

So far, the 7D II actually is quite alot better built, I like the button layout better and it has WAY more customization.
The Mark IIs shutter is also quite alot softer/less noticeable, where the D750 is maybe 1.5-2x louder and more harsh sounding.

Also I have not found a way yet to change the ISO without using the LCD..... which is very odd. There must be a way...

But, after doing some comparisons already, the 7D II is holding its own in high ISO. Of course the full-frame is better, but it's not a HUGE difference.
Really, not that much at all, until you're at like 6400-12800 and looking at 100% view. The full-frame noise is finer, but the FOV is also quite a bit wider.
So if you up-scaled to match the crop sensor view, it might look very much the same.

But back on topic. The 7D II AF seems to be working ok. But I'm going to compare again to my 60D.

I assume you mean the LCD on top of the camera?

Use the 'Q' button on the back, in the modes that allow you to change the ISO, you'lol see the ISO setting in the upper right of he LCD on the back of the camera. Use the joystick button to select the ISO, then use the "SET" button to bring up a list.

If you want to use the top LCD, hold down the ISO button on the top of the camera and use the wheel control near the button you just pressed to scroll trough the IS settings.

I realized while typing this the camera has 2 LCD displays and I didn't know which one you meant. I imagine the ISO can be changed while looking at the displays in the view finder but I haven't learned that as yet.

Sorry, I meant on the D750. The canon is very logical is how things work to me.

But the D750 has the ISO button on the side, and when you press it, it turns on the LCD.

Are you saying you can't see the ISO you are setting on D750 via the viewfinder - if so that seems like a major limitation, all my Canon's have been able to do that even the 6D.

I haven't seen a way to set the ISO without using the rear LCD on the D750. Which is very weird.
There must be a way, but I gotta read the manual maybe.

There are 2 dials, one controls shutter speed and one aperture.
But to do ISO, from what I can tell, you press it, it turns on the read LCD and you adjust it that way.

I tried using other button combos like on the 7D II, but no luck.

Comparing some more shots between the D750 and 7D II at higher ISOs, I am seeing almost no difference.
If anything, the Canon is sharper/resolving more details because of the crop factor and more MP at that distance.

The image size when switching to crop mode on the Nikon is like 4k pixels vs 5500 on the Canon.

....

Page 134 of the manual describes how to set the ISO. Basically you press the ISO button on back, lower left and then rotate the main command dial to set the value. Hope this helps some. ;-)a

Hm. Yeah. Although the rear lcd comes on then. Unless I'm not doing it right. I'll look at the manual.

Thanks!

#3 did pretty well on moving targets in a very tough environment. ISO 3200, f/2.8, 1/120-1/400 second shutter. I tried lots of setting combinations, including anti-flicker. From what I can tell the anti-flicker didn't really work, but it didn't seem to hurt anything, except that it no doubt slowed the frame rate.

These things are very hard to track, and slow shutter speeds make it even trickier. I shot for quite awhile in all points mode with manual start point, and that seemed to work well, and it helped keep focus on the targets because it's hard for me to keep just a few points on these targets.

I still want to try some BIF and/or model airplanes outdoors, and if that works I think #3 might be a keeper (thank goodness).

Those look really. I'm glad you found one that is working for you. Details please - 1st and 2nd priority? Case # and any fine tuning to the parameters?

I got tried of waiting for some sun so I went back to the airport today since it was so warm. The cloud was so low you could just make out the lights when planes broke through and I had about 5 seconds to shoot.

I did take out my new 100-400 V2 as I already tried my 300 for stills. This sensor is sure light hungry. More than my 7D was I think. It will never be my 5D3 but this is not why I purchased it.

I'm not big on MFA so I never bothered to check. I may yet but it is not high on my list. I'll see after a sunny day and some bird shots. Bad light and the shots where pretty noisy but the detail is far better than before it went in. At least in focus and all shots were consistent.

Same set up as before. 1st and 2nd priority at Focus. Case 2 with tracking sensitivity at -2 which would have made little difference with such a large target and nothing else in the sky. Case 1 would have been just as good.

Anyway I'm feeling a lot better about it. I'll take it on my trip but I'll be shooting a bit with my 5D3 which usually has a different job.

Case 2 for everything. I switched to 1st priority Focus partway thru the evening and I think that helped.

Dog gone evil AI Servo on static subjects continues to be as impossible as everyone says - not (see attached AI Servo shot)

Nice. I have read many posts where people say they leave their cam on AI Servo all the time.
