I had a post awhile back about using old lenses. I bought an adopter and got it today and it gives me an error that says check lens and make sure it is clean. I put it on both M mode and Auto...still get the error. Tried two different lenses with the same error. I then took lenses off and just put the adopter on the camera and again go the error. I have a T4i and it says it on the listing below that it works for my camera. Am I doing something wrong?!

I just did some looking around and it seems a lot of people are having issues with focus confirm chip adapters and the T4i. Couldn't find any solutions yet. Have you tried putting it and the lens on while the camera is off? When the camera is on and the lens turns it swipes across the pins.

I read that the confirm chips can come off from the mount so something to look out for. Also I read that the focus confirm was unreliable in testing.

What I would suggest is to check the reviews for name brand adapters found on amazon, bh, adorama and see if people are saying that they work with the T4i or if they are still having problems.

I did try that...thanks so much for looking into this for me. I will return it and go with a name brand.

Thanks again!

When I had my T4i I tried 3 different chipped adapters- none of them worked. I just popped the chip off the adapters and used them chipless- they are usually just glued on the lens.

They're no name brand M42 adapters, they're all chinese made, some companies just charge 10X for the same stuff.

buy a chipless adapter, should be under $5.

you could just put scotch tape over the chips...and it should work then...of course you won't get the AF confirm though...but at least you can take pics

I tried chipped adapter with my C/Y lenses. None of them worked. Manual focus is not that difficult. I suggest a non-chipped adapter. Or an old film camera!

If I was in your shoes, I would give this a try. While the reviews don't state that the chip confirms, 2 reviews state that it works with older lenses..
(of course I've grown weary of reviews any more, so many are fake to push the 5 star rating)

Works great with my T4i and Helios 44-2 lens, September 11, 2013
I was looking for something to mount my Helios 44-2 onto my Canon T4i, and I decided to pick this unit because of the Dandelion AF confirm. I just received it today (after over a month wait, which is another story, but I'll keep this review focused on the product itself), and I'm very happy to report that the AF confirm works great with my T4i. I have read several comments to the contrary, so I don't know if they made a change recently, or if I'm the exception. It fits on both my lens (Helios 44-2) and body (Canon T4i) perfectly. The primary feature of AF confirm works great. I am very pleased with this product.

Fits perfectly., February 25, 2013
This adapter has allowed me to use my 35-year-old telephoto lens with my new Canon t4i, extending my reach considerably. I haven't yet gotten the beep function to work, alerting me to when focus is achieved, but that's probably something I have to figure out with the camera. This product is so very much worth the expense!

and in their question and answer area, 3 answers...

Will the AF confirm function work with a Canon EOS T4i (650D)?

Im not sure but i was able to test it and make it to work on my Rebel XS, probably i will.

Yes, it does work. I'm using it as a permanent mount/adapter on a Rokkor 58mm

Yes, it does. I just received my unit today, and the AF confirm works with my T4i and Helios 44-2 lens.

Not all AF confirmation chips are created equal. There are 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd Gen, and 4th Gen. I think only the "EMF" versions work with some of the latest cameras from Canon. My SL1 is an exception as it does work with early generation Non-EMF AF chips while my 5D3 does not.

Here is some more info on the various Generations: http://photo.stackexchange.com …m42-lens-canon-dslr-adapt (external link)

No chip on the adaptor: your camera will say act as if no lens is attached. some cameras force you to enable shooting without lens. Focus confirm doesnt work. EXIF data may be difficult to handle.

1st generation: Requires MF mode. fixed exif 50mm F2 (or whatever other number they chose for you), focus assist works. Auto focus tracking modes do not work. ETTL cant negotiate the correct numbers.

2nd generation/3rd generation - no EMF: like 1st gen but better built (3rd gen better built than 2nd gen), fixed exif 50mm F1.4.

2nd generation/3rd generation - with EMF : you can now program the f and F numbers yourself through the aperture dial (not user friendly interface), which helps you with EXIf data and ETTL metering. AF microadjust allows you to calibrate back/front focus.

4th generation: Advanced EMF, AF simulation allows AF modes to be used which means old cameras that require a lens with AF to give focus "beeps" or "lights" will work, and AI focus will work, too. Focus locking works as well. These cost quite a lot.

In my opinion the best one is the Euro Dandelion AF Chip sold by Tagotech. It is more expensive, but is better designed, is fully programmable, and looks nicer as well.

http://www.ebay.com …EMF+Program+Chip&_sacat=0 (external link)

I currently have three manual focus lenses with Canon EF mounts, each with a different Programmable AF Confirm Chip installed. All three work on the 5D3 so I expect they would also work on the T4i, T5i, 60D, 70D, 7D, 7D2, 5D2, 5D3, etc

Canon FDn 50mm 1.4 with Big_Is AF chip (programmed to 50mm f/1.4) (factory default)
Samyang 500mm 8.0 with Adplo AF chip (programmed to 500mm f/5.6) (due to f/5.6 AF limit on the SL1)
Samyang 14mm 2.8 with Tagotech AF chip (programmed to 14mm f/2.8)

Big_Is chip

Adplo chip
http://www.ebay.com …Tubes&hash=item3f2ebb0c42 (external link)

Tagotech chip
http://www.ebay.com …onfirm&_sacat=0&_from=R40 (external link)

All three report the EXIF data as programmed and all three work with both my SL1/100D and 5D Mk III.

Thanks for posting guys! I am returning the one I got and I bought one off amazon. It does not have the AF chip. The lenses are not that great of shape to spend to much money on an attachment. If I find that I do like the lenses and want to use them more I may look at getting one of the ones listed above.

again thanks for your help!

If you're getting one without the chip, why bother returning the other one? It will be exactly the same as what you bought once you take the chip off

cause it will have hard glue all over it.
