I was about to say goodbye this week....
I had long ago committed myself to go full-size 35mm sensor when I could buy a new one for $1500...and this month I can...I'm getting the Nikon D610 refurbished by Nikon for $1500.

With all my Nikkors, (and the 2 Vivitar zooms), I only need the body to have a complete kit...

There will be a time of long practice sessions to learn the new system...though I'm a pretty basic/minimalist shooter so that shouldn't be too hard...but there will be a lot of time practice with focusing since all but 1 (28-85mm AF Nikkor) are MF lenses...

I went to bestbuy to try it out for the 1st time this week and did pretty okay...was very impressed with IQ at ISO 2500 shooting default JPEGS straight out of the box...with minimal PP in PS.

Here are some shots taken with the Vivitar Series1 28-90....of a new Canon owner!
...too big for here...and the shots are taken too tight for 100% crops (that would be of no use to me anyway)...I did take one 100% crop, however, and reduce the size by 1/2 to fit the screen and that shot looks pretty good...

....I plan on selling off my Canon gear (it'll pay for the 610) and thought that meant a sad goodbye to you all....but it seems I won't have to leave PoTN...I can be a NIKON PoTNer with the new forum set-up (see this week's announcement above under Forum news)...

I look forward to sharing my Nikon experience with you all...

The use of MF lenses (without stop down metering) has long been the temptation for me to switch to Nikon. I really like the Nikon film cameras (I have the FE, F3 and F4) but always stop short of selling my Canon digital gear, as it just seems too much hassle. I also wonder if I would be disappointed with the images I would get compared with my Canon gear. I experimented with a D300 earlier this year, which I compared (just from an image perspective - JPEG straight from camera) with the 1D Mark IIn that I had at the time. The Canon seemed better to me....

I'll be really interested in how you get on - good luck!

Thanks....I have many AF/MF twin FL lenses in Canon and Nikon from 50mm to 200mm including 28-85 and 70-210 zooms, and when picking up a lens, I would nearly always choose the MF version so MY temptation to go to Nikon has been VERY strong and for a very long time...I do have a couple of AF Nikkors so it will be interesting to see which I'll choose, MF or AF, to put on the end of the D610...

As for IQ....Here's from my 1st attempts with the D610 and the Vivitar MF 28-90...JPEGS literally SOOB with nothing more than a bit of levels and sharpening adjusted....@ ISO 2500!
Full Frame

[note the camera brand she's buying :)]

...and a "50%" crop...i.e. a 100% crop reduced in frame width by 1/2 to fit here...close enough to convince me I can get the results I'd hope for...
