I have just about finished putting together a 2-minute slideshow that will feature a best-of selection of wedding photos I've taken at a particular venue. I'm working in Adobe premiere and have added some movement / panning in the shots--each of which lasts for 4 seconds. The slideshow is bookended by titles--the last of which prominently features my web address.

Because I'm totally daft about making slideshows I'd appreciate any suggestions regarding best practices. Is 4 seconds reasonable ? Should every photo be watermarked (probably not) or is having my branding in the titles enough ? Is it a sin to have 2 consecutive 'push in' transitions ? Is it a sin to not use cross-dissolves but use hard cuts instead ? Finally, could anyone share what they think is a decent slideshow, with music, that features wedding photos ? I've looked on youtube and found really really terrible ones but none that made me say: 'yes, that's 2014'.

I'd not watermark the photos, since you will own them and possess them anyway. As for the 4 seconds, that's about right.

@bikfoto: I wasn't intending on watermarking for the purpose of 'owning or possessing'. I considered doing so because the video will be in HD and laying out my best work in large size--free to be screenshot and rendered to images--gave me pause. I've opted not to watermark but was sure to include branding in the opening and closing titles.

I'd avoid getting too gimicky with all the different transition effects. Personally I like cross fade or just a side swipe motion. Not a fan of the mosaic and other such breaking images. 4 sec looks good. I'd also not watermark them, if at all I'd maybe have a small signature in one lower corner, but even that gets repetitive in a slideshow.

I've got a few under the samples section on my website. Whether you call them decent is another matter. Made in Windows Movie Maker.

I'd stick with Cross-fade transitions or hard cut. Look at any top level commercially produced films, and you'll see that they don't use any of those gimmicky transitions.

I've used ProShow Gold for a few years and have been happy with the results. You can do a lot to make it look very sleek and tailored to your audience. Fairly easy learning curve.
