Which one would be better for large groups?

I would think the Softlighter because it'll shoot the light wider. I'd still get the octa because you can grid it making it more versatile.

Yeah, the grids. I was also taking a gander at the 4-ft octaform. There are grids for that one, but not for the 5-footer. Would there be much difference between them (not considering the grids)? I'm talking about groups of 12-40 people here.
