Now you're talking! Just need to adjust that colour balance to bring out the natural colours caused by the noble gasses within the region.

Love the widefield!

Baz.

Thanks Ron and Baz
I need more time on it to reduce noise too. No 6 hours here. Not too hard to find either.

Not sure you can see Tarantula in the North. Hmm Texas maybe. But I think it'll be pretty low

Depends on the direction If its south or west the lake is there so I can go to the horizon. And its dark in those directions no towns either way for 25 or more miles. There is a hill at the dark sky site for my club. Might be able to get it there. I'll have to check into it. Would suck if I can't see it I really like how it looks. I'm about 250 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. I'm at 30.34N.

Checked looks like its a no go ;( Gets pretty close to the horizon in Feb. There are some cool objects in the south. I used to participate in the week long event at Chaco Canyon in New Mexico the week of the summer solstice. The guy that ran the observatory and event moved to Australia and works at an observatory there. He did some nice images of southern DSO's. Chaco is a huge observatory. There are places all over the canyon that line up with the sun at certain times of the year. The Solstice star party is excellent. Not a huge crowd its 100 miles from the nearest town but everytime I went it was a great time. Its a magical place for sure.

I thought that might be the case. Just as we can't see Polaris here. NGC2070 sits pretty low.
You also miss out on the Eta Carina nebula, 47Tuc cluster and a few other nice things. Shame.
Maybe you'll just have to visit Aus :)

I wish I could go I have a few friends there. Almost got to go a few years back. They wanted me to come over and video their big race of the year but even with them kicking in I couldn't afford it. When my father got out of the Air Force he applied for a Foreign Service job posted in Australia but didn't get it :( Eta Carina is awesome. I've seen lots of pictures of it. My brother is working in Saudia Arabia right now He says a few miles out of town in the desert the sky is unreal. My dad learned the sky from the arabs when he was in North Africa in WWII. I had a little refractor and we spent lots of nights looking at stuff when we were out camping. I taught freshman astronomy labs when I was in college. They had some nice equipment at the school I was at. Just basic stuff for non science majors. I just wanted access to the scopes so it was a good trade off. It was 2 2hr labs a week. I did that and worked in the accelerator lab writing magnet control software. They were building the Superconducting Supercollider at the time so I'd went back to school to get a Physics degree to get a job there. All the schools were working with the project. It pumped a ton of money into the Physics depts across the state. Our whole accelerator was brand new. We were developing a detector for Texas Instruments and working on stuff for the Collider. Funding was cut and now its just a hole in the ground. I went back to work in the computer field. I managed to have a pretty interesting and satisfying life. Hoping getting back into AP will be another satisfying challenge. So far its working out that way.

Just added new image. Adding to data. Seems to be an object that adding more is not always better.
Filters may change that?

That #2 shot is really looking good Peter ! Is all you did is add more data or did you reprocess the image as a whole also ? I know most images of the Tarantula are usually red in color contrast but I have seen a lot with the same blue contrast you have here and I'm really liking the blue . However I would really like to see how it looks compared to looking at it through your scope . Otherwords do you remember how M42 looked through your scope before you edited it . It has that wispy ghost look to it like you can almost touch it and real similar to cig smoke rising . Here is a pict of the Tarantula that is similar to what I'm talking about .

This is a reprocess with all data added. No reds what so ever straight from camera. Apparently this nebula is in an area high in helium II which giver the blue. Any image in other colours are filtered. Thought the scope it doesn't look much different. White/blue patch. Looks like a tight cluster
