You couldn't just use your 135L at f4 to f8 to take tack sharp portraits with OCF?
What do I know; I do difficult lit church photography and portrait type work; I have a 135, the 70-200f4 and an 85 1.8, and think I should toss all 3 and go Tamron 70-200 2.8 VC and Sigma's new 85 ART. Love my 135 but I think I'd love the 85 ART more, could do indoor shooting more effectively, and with a 70-200 2.8 believe I could get by very well without my 135 for everything else.
And that is why most Wedding phtotogs use the 70-200 F2.8 IS - way, way more flexible (the FL range) and the IS is a huge issue which allows SS that you just cannot use with the 135L - especially if you use a 5DSR as I do - without Flash, I honestly couldn't get it tack sharp images, 90% of the time, using a SS below 1/1000. I know this may sound like an insane SS, and it isn't that high when using a 5D3 / 1Dxii type pixel density - and that is why I ended up selling my 50L, 85Lii and 135L - without IS there was just no way of using them. I moved to using a combo of a 70-200 F2.8 IS and a Tamron 85 1.8 VC on the 5DSR - the pixel density of the 5DSR allows the Tamron 85 to be cropped and act a lot like a 135L if required.
