Thanks! it is indeed as surreal looking as the sport itself is. :) i have many different shots like this, even with horsejumping and those shots look bizarre.. but i have tried many variations of cropping these with centered subjects, off-centered, tight and wide crops plus many more. I might post some later on but i don't want to spam this thread with all of them.

Well ... this image stopped me in my tracks. It's very creative.

I think the thread could carry the weight of a couple of variations in composition/cropping. I'd be interested, anyway.

Playing with the image on-screen, I do think cropping the right hand edge of the shot produces something that is more pleasing to my eye. But you need to be careful not to lose the weirdness. I don't think the usual 'rules' apply here.

Edit: Incidentally, I don't think you are going to make it onto the front cover of 'Horse and Hound' with this image ... but you might try giving them a look at it. You never can tell.

One more before i get to bed, i'm off to shoot new one's tomorrow. :)
This one is almost a square crop, tighter yet symmetrical and with some 'air' left around the subjects.

... quite bizarre ... puts a smile on my face

These shots seem to emanate from some sort of alternative reality ...

... dressage, synchronised swimming, that strange thing that female athletes perform with sticks and ribbons ... they all seem to belong in a different universe.

Well, you've nailed dressage.

Let's try one from the horse jumping competitions i shot yesterday, this is equally bizarre with the weird angle but it gives some quite unique shots of it. Not the usual look from ground level everyone else shoots. :)

Even fron this angle it shows the amazing height & length of
the jumps these beautiful animals can accomplish,
even with a human on their backs.
What a tail!
Nice capture.
