Thinking it's a shot of the top of a dock piling, or deck post.

But it looks like its floating; there is no shadow, no perspective and that's what keeps puzzling me

Yes-it's an excellent shot!

(The lens is so close to the top of the piling that perspective hides the rest of it.)

That is a great shot Annie, so atmospheric.

Lobowski guessed it, it's the top of a boat dock post ; ) And yes, because the lens is so wide angle and shot taken so close, the shadow almost appears missing. It's what I liked about the shot. That thin black strip on the bottom right of the post is it's shadow. Just much smaller because of the perspective.

I can't agree with this at all. Where is the shadow though? Look at the bench and notice the angle of its shadow. Something is not right here.

I didn't see your post when answering previously. That thin line is confusing and inconsistent with the shadow of the bench. Anyway, you know what you're talking about. Thanjs for the exclamation.
