Aug 04, 2019 20:17 | #5046 An interesting place. I'd like to visit it again on a clear night. Did you have to get any special permission to be out there at night? I don't remeber there being "tight" security on the perimeter. 5DIII, 6D, 7D2, 5DMKIV,1DMK4,EOS-M,1DX

Yes, we were with a photography group of about 25 people and supervised by two VLA employees. This was a few years ago, so I’m not sure about the current situation for photography visitors.

I saw some night VLA pictures that Bob Fugate from Albuquerque took a few years ago. He mentioned being with a group also for some type of photo event. Oh well, I guess I won’t be doing any spontaneous night visits during my annual Bosque trip in January. 5DIII, 6D, 7D2, 5DMKIV,1DMK4,EOS-M,1DX

It's okay to take photos during the day at the VLA, no permission required. One just has to stay in the designated photography areas. As for night photos, I think the tourist facilities are closed, however, people take photos from the highway, no permission required.

Thanks. I've been in the daytime and was impressed with just how big they are. It is really cool with they move. However, my day shots are not as impressive as your night shots with a little light painting and the star filled sky background. 5DIII, 6D, 7D2, 5DMKIV,1DMK4,EOS-M,1DX

I think some evening or night photos from the highway or one of the access roads would look really good with a long telephoto focal length. Might be worth a try since you're already going to be in the vicinity at the Bosque. I would be interested to see what you come up with. Please keep me posted if you do take some evening/night photos. Thanks.

I'll give it some thought. As you know, its a long drive after a full day of shooting at Bosque. But, it may be worth it! 5DIII, 6D, 7D2, 5DMKIV,1DMK4,EOS-M,1DX
