I'm looking for a long off camera flash cord for my 600EX. I have the OEM Canon cord, but it's coiled, and definitely not long enough. Was looking for a straight cord, preferably 15'-20'. Had seen some online, but was wondering if anyone had a particular preference...

By the way, I don't do flash much, so go easy on me... :)

Thanks!

Search for pixel componor.

Uses cat 5 network cabling, so can lengthen and shorten at will. Supports some serious distances too, so I hear.

kenjancef...I'd suggest looking at FlashZebra. Lon's a good guy and has posted on POTN many times.

Good luck,

Oh sweet, that would be awesome, since I'm an IT guy and have access to all sorts of patch cords. I'll give it a look.

Thanks!

Since you have a 600EX, why not go wireless? Get a generic trigger.

But if you insist on cable, I use a pixel Componor. Just supply a network cable to the length you need.

I have used one. It's the perfect ocf cable, but came out just as reliable TTL radio triggers were launched. But if it fits your bill...

Thanks for the posts...

I can't really afford wireless right now, unless I can get a trigger for under $100. I only have a need for this about once or twice a year, so right now I'd think the investment in wireless doesn't make sense right now, as much as I want to try it. And as a sports shooter I hardly use a flash... I will be doing Santa pictures for my son's school next month (for the second year), that's about all I would use it for.

I'll check out the triggers and the Componor.

Thanks again!!!

Over the years I have used a variety of "Off Shoe" TTL cords and the best I have found are the Paramount Cords. Do not know if they are even still in business because for most purposes wireless TTL radio systems for "Off Camera" flash just make more sense than using a cord. With cords you run the risk of damage to your equipment if someone or something runs into or trips over a cord. There is still the need in some instances for short TTL cords when using "On Camera" flash with a flash bracket but even with a bracket and a 600EX-RT I would use an ST-E3-RT in lieu of a cord. Since the introduction of the Radio Popper PX's I have not used any of my Speedlites "Off Camera" with a TTL cord and have not even found an instance to where I would want to use one. Today there are many choices for TTL radio systems in a wide range of prices to where I could not fathom putting a camera, lens and flash at risk of damage only to save a few bucks by using an "Off Shoe" cord.

Here's one you can make for about $20 if his prices are still valid and to be believed.:

Or worse, injury to the tripper.

Heya,

Go wireless. ETTL, HSS, etc, all wireless. Way nicer than a cable. (external link)

That grows as your flashes grow. Less wires. Less accidents. Less to load/unload.

Very best,

Nice.

curious how you know that he is posting a link that would benefit him financially? Doesn't' seem to be anything in the URL that tips me off, but i don't keep up with that stuff too much.

either way, there are a number of people who post here with and provide links to things that might be of benefit to themselves. However, like MalVeauX they provide honest feedback and advice to other users much more often than they promote their own interests.
