I am an owner of the EOS 7D and waiting desperately to upgrade to the 7D Mark II, but not at the £1599 quoted by all of the UK stores. I will be waiting until next year when supply outstrips demand.

However I have been past one particular camera store in Nottingham for the last 3 weeks and notice that they still have a 7D Mark II body for sale in their window, which I find remarkable given the interest shown on this forum and elsewhere and the fact that most stores in UK are still showing the camera as pre-order.

The question I ask here is "is there really a clamour for this camera or is everybody else waiting for the price to drop"?

Only time will tell. When the big online retailers aren't selling many at the RRP then they will start dropping it to a more realistic price. But as long as the supply of morons (or people who really need one now; or people buying with somebody else's money) doesn't dry up then they'll carry on making as much profit as possible - and who can blame them.

I would imagine that most people who pre-ordered would have done so through one of the online vendors, which is why your local bricks 'n' mortar store still has one.

Actually, there's another advantage to waiting. In a couple of month's time most of the AF issues will have been fixed (by people actually reading the manual in the majority of cases).

There was the typical early adopter rush. Now it will probably start to settle. I wouldn't expect any huge discounts for a while, but who knows.

The 7D2 will certainly get a little cheaper with time and whilst it is a fine camera, have you considered a used 1D4?
Give one a try I think you may like it and prices are pretty reasonable at the moment.

I'll be keeping my 7D until the 7D Mk3 (or whatever follows the Mk2) comes out.... I've got too many expensive hobbies :)

My 7D meets my current needs in a fast crop camera. I cannot see anything the 7d2 would add for what I shoot with my 7D.

No, considering the 5d3 is how old now and still goes for $3499CAN. At least locally here.

Here in the UK the price of the 7D will drop by about 20% over a few months. It happens with every new launch.

I had one on pre-order from MPB as an exchange for some equipment i was selling.
They sent a courier to collect the items for sale, we agreed a price and was told delivery of my 7d2 would be first week in November, that came and went, a phone call confirmed it would be the next week (guaranteed) when i heard nothing that week i got an email saying it might not even be in November as they are waiting for stock and nowhere in the country has any ?
At this point i requested all the items i was exchanging to be returned to me and the deal we had agreed was cancelled.
as of today 21/11/14 they still cant supply me with a 7d2, which i am quite pleased about looking at the expanding reports of this new model having focusing problems.

I may upgrade from the 7D to the 7D2 eventually, but I am in no hurry to do so. My 5D3 gets used most of the time, and the 7D has become just a 2nd body for wildlife only and does not get used that often. The 7D2 will have to drop in price by quite a bit before it will be worth it for me. I would rather spend money on upgrading my 100-400L to the new Mark II version before upgrading the 7D.
