So it look like the rumor of Sony incorporating a 5axis stabilizer into there next pro still cameras was true.

Article : http://www.newsshooter.com …age-stabilisation-system/ (external link)

Tl;dr: resolution is the same at 24.3 megapixels as the previous a7 but it now has built in stabilization like some Olympus cameras. The stabilizer works with sony lens but we don't know if it will work with lens from other manufacturers attached to it via the metabones smart adapter. Also they claim to have improved af performance by 30%, increased the size of the grip (probably to account for the space allocated to the stabilizer), added a stronger mount, more magnesium less metal and a new noise reduction system.

Thoughts ?

Gear: Some glass, some metal and some plastic.

Seems like the body would have to know the focal length of the lens to know how much to move the sensor to correct for motion of the body. It could be possible for lenses that communicate this, or if there is a way to input the information for dumb lenses.

There is much more to the camera than just the 5-axis IBIS. The AF is apparently much improoved and faster, the grip is larger so should fit better. The mount has been strenghtened, several additional body parts are now magnesium alloy and no more plastic. Apparently a new noise supression engine is also under the hood

Sony is claiming only 30% faster and it was already slow to begin with. If they could tackle the focus speed and lack of native lenses then I could see more people jumping ship.

If the IS system works with adapted lenses, Sony is going to sell a ton of these.

it will probably ask you the focal length for lenses that it can't communicate with. thats what my Pentax does.

No reason not to. Absolutely, send it back and pre-order the a7 II.

^^ highly agree. don't bother with the a7, aim for the a7ii. so much better than the already good a7.

price looks good too. not sure how much sony usa will price it at though.

Yeah, it's some seriously awesome feature upgrades! At the same time tho it is about 1/4" wider and .3lbs heavier.

i thoughtnative lens focus speed was quick. the only reason we keep hearing its slow is because this is a Canon forum and people are using Canon lenses.

Or just make it capable of quickly focusing non-native lenses.

As a cutting-edge electronics company but rank amateurs when it comes to making lenses, that's probably the easiest and best option for Sony.

That would be an absolutely brilliant move on Sony's part. Lack of lenses - lack of desirable native lenses - is the most oft-stated complaint I see regarding Sony's mirrorless cameras and if they could master AF speed on non-native lenses (particularly EF-mount lenses), then they would begin to make a very serious dent in the market share pie.

I wish Canon put stabilization inside of the cameras, but that would cost them money and they couldn't charge an extra $1,000 for adding it to a lens like they do now.

Sony is not making a single attempt to make non native lenses focus on their cameras, they want you to buy the native lenses. Third parties are the ones making retrofit adapters and unfortunately they don't have huge funds like Sony and Canon to put in the R&D.

Supposedly this camera focuses 30% better with the native lenses, not sure if that's for accuracy or speed.
