Uh ohhh...

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

But it is exactly the reason I got myself an A7R...because I could use all my existing Canon mount lenses on it. It cost me very little...no lenses, to get me a great camera for landscape photography.

I have been using Canon since 1987 when EOS and EF lenses were first introduced. I stopped with the 5D2. So far....
I got the A7R this summer. Now my 5D2 is only a backup. Sadly out of the bag.
I have one native 55mm lens. The other lenses are my EF lenses.
The battery capacity it terrible. But I solved that by getting a DC coupler from Ebay. For Time lapse or cold weather shooting I got a 3700mAh 7.4V battery used in RC cars. There are larger but this is OK to velcro to my tripod. Now I can shoot for hours at very low temperatures.
The A7R battery lid actually have an opening for the cable from the DC coupler. Boy I was surprised when I noticed that.
I think more Canon users will move over to Sony if they don't come up with a killer sensor very soon.
There is just something about Canon that you love and that is the menu and the ease of use.
But also the cost of the camera is something to consider for us that are not pro's. But if Canon is coming up with something that is reasonable priced and kills Nikon and Sony in dynamic range and less noise at high ISO. I will probably consider a new Canon in the house. Until then I will keep my EF lenses until Sony releases some spectacular E-mount UWA lenses.

Now I am closer to adding a A7S to my collection due to the capability to perform at high ISO. Imagine to be able to focus and compose an image in total darkness. My friend have it and it's amazing at night.
But I love the size and weight on the A7R.
I just wish it had a quiet mode....Even my cat jumps and get scared when I tries to take a picture of him....

The one native lens I'm thinking of adding is the Zeiss 16-35. Reviews indicate it is a very good lens, OK focusing, great image stabilization compact / light. I am going to Cuba, Prague and Kauai this year and the A7R with this lens will make a great walk around combo.

AF sensitivity is only -1 EV? That can't be right, can it?

A lot of Sony A7 + Canon lens veterans here so please do not mind if I barge in with a question not related to the A7II.
(Not quite sure where else to put it, anyway! Let me know if any other section can secure a suitable response, although I think the readership here can help.)

Trying to use Canon IS lenses (400mm f4) on a Sony A7 with the TechArt Ver 2 adapter. A few questions for those already dong so:

1. AF works OK, the Image Stabilization seems to be humming along (if one puts an ear to the lens barrel) so the connection 'seems' to be there but the image in the Sony viewfinder remains shaky as it would be when hand held without IS. Is this normal? If not, what can I do to resolve the issue?

2. Next, the Techart adapter comes with a chip, a sort of stropped down USB stick. I see no port on the adapter. How and where to use it?

I am not very computer savvy so any technically oriented advice on how to use the USB chip be kindly explained in detail!

Thanks in advance for any inputs please!
