The Offical 2014 - 2015 High School Basketball Thread

Ok I'll start the HS basketball thread since my football season is over and I'm missing it already.... I wasn't really going to cover this game as it was going to be a blow out but I thought I would try a little experiment. I usually strobe basketball, just because I think the colors look better but I didn't this game. I used a 5D3 with the 70-200 f/2.8 II and a 85 f/1.8 to see which I like better. The 85 is a fast prime but I thought the 70-200 was a little better, shocking I know.

Well I'm gonna cheat with a middle school b-ball shot since our HS season hasn't started yet... liking the 7D2 though, can't wait for more hoops!

Crank up your ISO so you can shoot with a shutter speed of 640. It will make your images a lot crisper.

Yes, ISO 6400 with 1/640 will be much sharper. I get motion blur at any SS below 1/500 sec.

I have seen a lot of high school basketball photos that were shot at ISO 6400, f.2.8 and 1/640 sec.

Craign-how do you like the 7D2? How is the performance with high ISO? My biggest beef with the 7D.

Ill try 6400 tonight. Not sure how well it will handle 6400 but ill give it a go

You will have no problems with ISO at 6400 with the 1DX.

Heck, I would expect no problem with ISO 204800 on the 1dx mark iii.

Its the 1dmark iii not the new 1dx. my Iso only goes to 6400

Czbrat271, here are some photos from last night, renovated gym with new paint, lights and floor. ISO 6400, f/2.8, SS needs to be 1/1000 bid-court between the foul lines and 1/640 near the baseline and under the basket. Great light over the floor, but not much over the end zones. Still experimenting with settings.
