Hi All -

I'm looking for opinions on a good tripod/stand for a 600ex-rt off camera. Can you make any recommendations? Preferably something reasonably priced, as this isn't something I'll be using all the time.

Primary use will be for the occasional wedding and portrait photo shoot.

If there is a setup that comes with a highly recommended umbrella, I'd also be open to that - even if it's a more expensive option.

Thanks in advance!
-Brandon

Honestly, I'd prop up a flash on pretty much anything. Find the cheapest tripod or light stand and you'd be fine. By the way, it's 600EX-RT.

Thanks Alex - Most likely going to go that route, but wanted to see if there were any other alternatives. I edited the post with the correct model name - my mistake.

If you want to travel light nano stands, 8 ft or 10 foot for wedding receptions or standing subjects.

If you're in US, Cheetah Stand has some really nice stands with self folding legs.

Otherwise, Adorama or B&H have lots of options.

As for brackets to hold the 600EX-RTs that will depend on what modifiers.

One good option is the Godox/Cheetah S bracket (or E bracket) Works well for umbrellas as well as modifiers with speedrings.

The "starving strobist" kits from MPEX are pretty good, lumapro clone of the manfrotto nano stand, brolly bracket and wescott double fold umbrella.

Mine have had 3 yrs of full time professional use (bordering on abuse**) and one is still going, the other works, but has a stripped thread in a clamp, so doesnt go full height.

I will be ordering another set.

**im a news photographer, so they have travelled on the side of a rolly bag for miles, been setup and torn down multiple times a day, thrown, dropped and blown over, coated in dust and sprayed with mud at car rallies, been put in swimming pools etc.
To be honest, im surprised they lasted as long as they have.

Go out and get a Godox S mount bracket, you can thank us later

Solid construction, holds flash very securely, has umbrella mount, and you can mount all kinds of softboxes on it

This is what I'd go for, and use. They're wonderful.

Very best,

Godox is awesome and allows you to use any modifier with a Bowen's mount. If you want light and fast and cheap, get a 2 stand/umbrella kit from B&H. It's only $100 and I still user mine.

You might want to add a sandbag to your shopping list. I learned the hard way and had my 600ex-rt blown down by wind. luckily for me Canon somehow did not charge me for the repairs.
