Tenderizer

This wicked looking device is used to tenderize meat. It has three rows of sharp metal teeth that pierce the meat in order to make it more tender. I should have held it at a slightly greater angle to show the rows of teeth better I think.

joseph.. Nice shots of the Wusthof knife.. The second does look better. More shadow and more shine!

66Farilane.. I don't know what it is, but I do like the shots! ;)

Doc.. That seems extreme! That looks like it would be for.. Woolly Mammoth steaks...

I needed to flatten some chicken breast but couldn't find the kitchen/meat mallet. I ask the wife if she knows where it is and she pulls one of those out of the utensil drawer and ask me if I'm blind:rolleyes:

At least she didn't grab the ice cream scoop :p although that would have been better for what I wanted to do.

It's made to tenderize tougher cuts of meat like top round...like chicken fried steak is tenderized but this tool doesn't do as good a job as the commercial knives do.

I don't think I'd want to use it on chicken unless you put the cover back on it and then use it like a hammer. ;-)a It is pretty heavy.

joseph -- Nice shots of your knife. The second is better but I like that lean in the first one.

66Farilane -- Must be nice to have your own metal shop. Nice photos.

Gene -- I thought tenderizers came shaped like ice cream scoops these days. Wicked looking tool there.

Stina -- new avatar or did AMASS do that to you?

I did that. I noticed that when I have a longer post my avatar got pretty big and it seemed weird having a big picture of my face staring at me.

Edit: See the difference in my two posts.

The forum change seems to have made a lot of the members change their avatars. I've had to actually read who the posts are from instead of just looking at the pictures, I feel all growed up now.

I was temped to change mine when I upload a full size image since the old one was to small for some of the sizes the avatars see on the new site.

Here's another tool I have. This is my Kriss Kross double edge safety razor automatic strop. You put the blade you want to strop (remove any burrs) into the holder and then turn the crank. After the leather disk, which is the strop, rotates against the blade a few turns, the blade holder raises up, flips over and then goes back down against the rotating leather strop to do the opposite side of the blade. This will repeat as long as you turn the crank. Not a bad device for the price of $6.00 (circa 1927).

Here's a business opportunity ad for the Kriss Kross Stropper from the Oct 1927 issue of Popular Science Magazine.

A couple camera positions used on just a handful of my wood cutting tools. I prefer the Landscape position as I filled the frame on the vertical shot leaving myself little room for cropping. This was a quick trip to the woods so 4 saws, cant hook, UTV, and many other tools are not shown.

Knives are considered a much needed tool for me and it has became a hobby to collect them as well. There are hundreds of blade designs, type of blade steel used, handle shapes and materials. Each shape can have it's specialized use, the material quality of the blade can dictate the price as well as what it may be used for and there are personal preferences in steel. These are all hunting knives which I use, the Wusthof and Henckels I buy for my wife and did not shoot any of them.
This first pic shows most of my collection, some range from production knives of less value to a few custom made knives that can be quite costly. When I travel, some areas in particular , I look for a knife to buy, not only to use at home but to remember the vacation. Anytime I look at the knife or use it I'm reminded of where it came from.

The knives that mean the most to me are in this second photo: Top left row from top to bottom,1) my Dads boning knife, 2)Dad's pocket knife, he passed away in 1988 and I use his boning knife often: 3) USN Mark1 (US Navy) given to me by an Uncle 40 years ago:4)knife that I made 42 years ago then lost while hunting. A neighbor found it in his creek and returned it to me. It had been lost in the woods for 39 years, I traded him a new Buck knife to get this worthless relic back .5)Engraved Buck from 2002, 6)Knife I purchased in Medora ND at the Cowboy Hall of Fame, 7) Big Game knife Haines AK,8) handmade with Caribou antler handle, AK 9)Handmade by alaska native with Walrus Tusk handle, 10, Mammoth Ivory Ulu, from Alaska.
Row on right, top to bottom. 1)Gerber 3 blade bolt action, the one knife that is in my hunting pack year around, 2)Caping knife, used to cape trophy game animals, 3) Coho Fillet 4)handmade knife that my brother made just for me to fit the right hand from antler and steel that I provided,5) and finally, a Randall Made from Orlando Florida. I bought this knife 40 years ago from a "down on his luck" poker player at a hunting camp for 10 US dollars, one of the best investments I've ever made.
Also included in both photos are some ancient tools dating from the stone age that I have found while hunting here in Missouri, mainly on my farm. I normally find knives and scrapers, probably because they are large and I don't see the small points very often. I have a much larger collection of points but thought these scrapers and knives fit my theme better.
