I've been using a Maxtek battery in my 60D for several years and had no problems with the Canon charger. Today, I tried to charge it in the charger that came with my 6D; no dice. The charger just kept up the rapid flashing, without charging the battery. I can charge my Wasabi's in the 6D charger. Is this normal?

Canon has changed the chip in the LP-E6 at least once. Its possible your maxtek battery is older than that and will not communicate with the 6D charger.

Even though for Canon batteries, have you tried the procedure at http://www.canonrumors.com …n-lp-e6-product-advisory/ (external link)

That makes sense. If I put the Maxtek in the 6D, it throws the 'unable to communicate with battery' error. The new Wasabi's I bought work just fine in both cameras, and all three chargers (60D, 6D & Wasabi).

That pretty much confirms it then. If I remember correctly the chips in the aftermarket batteries eorked fine with the 60D, 7D, snd perhaps the 5DIi. After the 6D came out there was a brief periof where 3rd party makers had to play catfh up.

Thanks for the info. I have a couple of aftermarket batteries that used to work fine in my 7D and 5DMII but not now in my 7DMII. Thought I was losing my mind.

I find it very odd that my 60D charger will charge the Maxtek, the old 60D battery, the new 6D battery and the Wasabis. The new 6D charger will charge the Wasabis, the new 6D battery, and the old 60D battery, but not the Maxtek. Strange, but true.
