Hi All,

I stumbled across an open box lens on newegg that was about 30% off of the new price. There was no specific info about it other than it *may* have missing pieces, not original packaging, etc. There is a 30 day return on it with no restocking fee tho so i figured why the heck not?

Just wanted to see if others had experience with newegg and open box lenses specifically.

No, but honestly I avoid using NewEgg whenever possible. The only DOA parts I have ever received have been from NewEgg. They're extremely unfriendly when it comes to returns and their customer service is pretty poor.

If it was my money, I wouldn't even consider it.

Many times I have found that cheapest cannot be counted on to be the "best buy". I have no experience with NewEgg. I actually tend to spend a few more dollars to get equipment from photography stores that allow me to handle things, test things in store, give advice, and help me in many other ways when I need it. Good service is worth some money to me.

I have purchased countless items from Newegg, and find them to be very easy to deal with. I've bought cameras, lenses and almost 90% of my computer gear from them.

Their pricing isn't always the best, so it pays to double check against other vendors. For example, when I was in the market for the 100-400, they were several hundred $$ over all other retailers. Only after I personally called their marketing department did they even look into it. They lowered it, but didn't include the rebate from canon.

But on the 5dIII they were very competitive. If the 'open box' item is returnable, then I wouldn't worry too much about it if the price is good.

Have you checked out Canon's own website? They have a pretty extensive list of refurbs, but they sell out very quickly.

The nicest part of Newegg is that for most purchases over $500 you can get 1 year no interest. Just make sure you get everything paid off before the year timeframe.

Well I went ahead and bought it. I'll report back once I receive it. It was actually a Sony FE lens.

I picked up the lens today and I cannot find a single flaw. It came in all the original packaging with the warranty card, instructions etc. Doesn't look used at all. It would appear that I got a brand new lens for 2/3 of the price.
