IMHO the background looks really good - nicely processed, good colours, but the main subject is uninteresting! It is also centred, cropping out the left so it is more "rule of thirds" would probably improve it.

I agree, cropping a bit on the left would improve the composition, otherwise a great capture.

I like it the way it is!

Crop out too much on the left and you lose the water creating a ring around the subject, which I find interesting. By the way... what is the subject?!? Looks like a rock with a bunch of barnacles or something?

i love breaking the rules, but i just can't get past the placement of the mysterious dark rock blob.

everything else about the pic is awesome.

I would try to shoot from a bit higher up to get better separation of the mussel covered rock from the background. I'd also crop differently. Right now you have two points that draw the eye. The rock, which is centered, and the golden gate bridge in the upper right both with a lot of visual weight. There is nothing with any visual weight in the left side of the shot or bottom so it feels very unbalanced. Arrange the frame so the rock and the bridge balance each other and it would be a nicer shot, in my opinion. I like the water flow that you captured and the feel of the processing.

Composition rules are made to be broken, however in this case the results is a little uncomfortable to the eye. Although the look of the image is gorgeous, exposure, colours, processing etc I think it looks better with the elements thus.........

I agree. I think the rule of thirds makes this a more pleasing picture.

But, overall, an amazing picture!

It is beautiful but I'd clone out the rock in the center.

I agree with the slight cropping to apply the rule of thirds. Otherwise, I LOVE it. The soft pastel colors work brilliantly with the longer shutter -- which, by the way, was the perfect length. It has a nice painting-like effect, which usually looks cheesy, but you nailed it!

This is more visual pleasing cropping wise. Overall, I love the photograph very much. Reasons being are the water showing motion, and that it is different view of the Golden Gate Bridge that Ive never seen compared to all of the other photography I've of it. The colors are also very lovely.
