That caused me to get the Lexar 1066X while it was on sale. While I have not run up to the buffer yet with the Lexar I suspect I will be able to prove the report out one of these days.

Very interesting. I bought a Lexar 800X 32GB when I bought my 7D2. Looks like I could have saved a few quid and gotten better performance from the Kingston!

I have delusions of adequacy!

I don't like CF cards any more. They are a dying breed. So will likely go with one of the faster SD cards.

Black Friday is coming up.

Hah! I remember reading the exact same sentiments comparing CF with SmartMedia (you may need to look that up).

CF has been a dying breed for over a decade.

Still CF is they way to go for max performance on this camera. Next model may be different, but not yet.

If you are photographing out of town somewhere and experience a CF card failure and quickly need to buy a replacement, you will probably have some trouble finding one. Similarly with a CF card reader.

So CF is not dead yet, but close.

Then one of the many spare cards will have to do. I've been using CF for 16 years, I do have a few.

Yeah -- here is my spare CF card. It's 8 years old.

I've have a Sandisk firewire 800 reader and broke a pin in it. First time that has ever happened to me. The local Mac store luckily repaired it but you just can't find new ones anymore. Everything is USB 3 but my Mac is 2. I did come across some used ones on eBay but any suggestions for future proofing would be helpful. The tech changes everyday and I can't keep up to it.

Thanks in advance.

With technology improvements SD is rapidly catching up. For whatever the reason, I do not think that we have seen similar increases in speed on CF cards. Of course both are made pretty much by the same companies so perhaps they have consciously chosen one technology to concentrate on.

16MB! That's huge. I have a couple of 8MB cards - but CyberDyneSystems can beat us both.
