Will the 7D paired with the 100-400 and 1.4 converter loose auto focus? I have been drooling over the Sigma 150-600 but its a lot of cash for an extra 200MM. Does anyone have any input as to how I can push my 100-400 to 600MM with good results? Keeping auto focus would be a plus too.

Well the 7DII supposedly AF's to f/8 according to the spec sheet, so yes it should work with the 100-400L + 1.4× Converter. How that will compare to either of the Sigma 150-600s or the Tamron is hard to say. From what I have read the 100-400 MKI can be very variable with converters. What the MKII will be like we will have to wait and see, although that will probably be a more expensive option than the Sigma Sport when you add the cost of lens and converter. You also need a 1 series or 5DIII (or already mentioned 7DII bodies to maintain AF. Sigma also suggest that the 150-600 Sport will work with the new Sigma 1.4× converter, while reporting aperture, while on a camera that will AF at f/8. This combination will then get you to 840mm.

The 7D Mk I will not AF with a f/8 lens. I have read that even taping the pins doesn't work.

I had a 100-400L for a while that I used with my 7D. I tried a Kenko 1.4x Pro 300DG with that combo and it did not work. I tried taping the pins as msowsun mentions and it did work - but focus was very slow and it hunted all over - in essence, it was unusable for moving objects. It was the middle of winter when I tried this and the light was very flat. It *may* work in really good light. In manual focus, I did get a couple nice shots of the moon though.

Oh yes it will. It has the same specification as the 1DX in that particular case.

The 7D Mk II does but not the original 7D.
