I finally decided to go ahead and get one now that I have the 7D2, which fills a 16gb card pretty quickly. The $50 savings made it a bit easier though. Glad I could not sleep this morning.:lol:

Is 1066x worth $37 over 800x?

Here are the differences in speeds, which you can see have been measured to be over 3 times the speed difference in both continuous burst mode speed and video recording speed, while the read speeds (card to computer) were insignificant when using a Lexar CFR1 reader.

WRITE SPEED (In camera, what clears the buffer during multiple shot bursts)
800x = 45 mb/s
1066x = 151 mb/s

VIDEO SPEED (In camera, VPG ratings for continuous video shooting)
800x = 20 mb/s
1066x = 65 mb/s

READ SPEED (What they all advertise, but has no effect on camera or shooting)
800x = 160 mb/s
1066x = 162 mb/s

This comparison of 32GB Lexar Professionsal cards was performed by cameramemoryspeed.com (external link).

From this comparison, it is easy to see why we only see the card to computer read speeds advertised on the card face. Even though the 1066x performs 3 times faster in camera, unless you have a camera capable of saturating this bandwidth, the extra speed probably isn't worth it, and in the meantime you can enjoy similar card to computer transfer rates with a USB 3.0 Lexar Professional Workflow CFR1 reader.

But why pay $69.99 at Amazon when you can pay only $54.95 for the same 64GB 800x card at B&H?

I got mine for $54.95 from Amazon w/ free shipping, and it let me use my AMEX points.

I just got my card from B&H, but unfortunately they packed the incorrect card (64gb 800x) and they are now out of stock.vmad Fortunately, Adorama came to the rescue.:-D I hope you get the correct cards from B&H. I know stuff happens.

Thanks for the heads up Methodical. I'll be sure and check the cards carefully when they arrive.

I ended up ordering a handful of Lexar 1066x cards myself, despite my misgivings about Lexar and Canon.

I looked long and hard at the 800x, and read many reviews and tests. In the end, I decided that if I should ever begin shooting more video, I'd be happier with the recording rate of the 1066x cards (VPG-65 versus VPG-20). Three times the write speed for $35 more. Couldn't see why not.

Oh my gosh, the exact same thing happened to me! I bought a 64 GB 1066x card and B&H sent me a 64 GB 800x card instead. I also understand that mistakes happen. I emailed customer service and they assured me that they would send me an advance replacement and that they were in stock. I specifically asked this since I have a trip coming up soon that I want to use the new card on. My fingers are crossed that this is correct! I worry though, because if they are not in stock then they simply can't ship me the correct one. I'll know later today...

Bryan

Update: As expected, B&H came through as promised and shipped me the proper 1066x card, even though they don't show the card as available for 7-10 days. Perhaps they set one aside for me as soon as I reported the error they made in shipping the wrong card. At any rate, mistakes happen and as always, B&H is doing everything to make it right. I've bought from both Adorama and B&H dozens of times over the years and they have always provided top-notch customer service.

I spoke to customer service and they would've still given me the same deal when the item was back in stock if I did an exchange vs. a refund. I decided not to because I did not want to take the chance that it would take weeks or months, similar to what happened when they had this deal back in the summer.
