Recommendations for an Octa for speedlites only

I am looking to put together a more mobile and less bulky on the go setup. I am looking for an Octa to use with my speedlites instead of brining out my mono's all the time on location.

I am thinking of going with a 36" Lastolite Hot rod but I am interested in seeing what others use.

If 28" would do the job, the SMDV Diffuser 70 / Glow ParaPop are really nice.

And the Parapop and smaller HexaPop are on sale at the moment.

A 38" Parapop should be available in a few weeks as well. Though obviously they will cost more, and the 28" version is very easy to manage. Ideally it would be nice to have both.

In terms of diffusion surface area per unit of overall volume, the Phottix Luna style Octas score highly. No grids tho'.
Their Bowen S mount normally limits you to a single Speedlite - unless - you go with the Godox S mount complete with their cranked rod 4 Speedlite adaptor. I use 2 in their 110 cm unit.

There are Ebay clones at 70 cm. And Cheetahstand do them too.

For speedlites and bare bulb hybred strobes I prefer Apollo type unbrella frame modifiers.
They are light, easy to setup, provide a nice smooth light through the front diffusion panel.

There are several knock off sources via Amazon or eBay. Or go with Westcott.
All the current Westcott appear to have fiberglass ribs which is critical to longevity.

The ones with U channel ribs are very prone to bending.

The apollo line up is a great choice for speed lights, though not without its limitations (like tilting)

The apollo orb is 43", closes/opens like an umbrella, and has an optional grid available for it as well. I beleive phottix makes their own version as well.

The key to tilting the Apollo and other umbrella frame modifiers is getting the mount for the light/modifier to be cantilevered off the light stand.
