I just returned from Africa and we saw the wild dogs twice, one in Chobe and once in the Okavongo Delta. This first shot is from Chobe.

This second shot was in the Okavongo Delta. This pack was sort of stalking a male waterbuck, but they were dealing with a couple of distractions. Most of the pack had stopped to watch a couple of hippos making a racket behind them, and the one in the back of the pack was looking into the brush keeping tabs on a crippled hyena that was following them, hoping for an easy meal of leftovers.

This is the hyena that was trailing them. Its left hind leg was badly messed up, but it was hard to see just what was wrong with it.

I am so jealous. These are among my favorite creatures on Earth. Let's hope we as humans keep letting them have a place to live.

Great shots and story, too. Lions and wild dogs and hyenas live a gruesomely glorious, and brutal life.

Yes, two of them in that pack had radio tracking collars.
