Metallic Prints! WOW!!!

I just received my first 8 x 10 and 16 x 20 Metallic prints from Adorama and WOW! I am really impressed with the look of Metallic prints! I also bought an 8 x 10 regular glossy print for comparison and the difference is AMAZING! I think Metallic is the way I am going to be going from now on.

I am sure there are other places other than Adorama that produce fantastic metallic prints. If you have a favorite place, please share that here!

I'd like to have a comparison frame between the two so finding the best place for prints would be helpful.

I have to second this. Have been printing metallic with Adorama for a couple of years now. They do fantastic work.

Bay Photo is also quite good.

Cool! I'm glad I picked a good one first time out then.

They're good for bright scenes, but if you overuse them you'll start to find them a bit drab. They don't work that well with the current trend of washed out textured images.

I agree with you about metal prints. I had crops from two of my flamingo photos enlarged to 16 x 24 metal prints by Fine Art America and I couldn't be happier. They hang over the head of our bed and I love seeing them every day.

Metal prints and metallic prints are two different thing btw... Not sure which one OP is talking about, but most places will print on metallic paper as an option.

I've never done metallic paper, but I do love printing on metal.

Could you post some pics of your prints? I would love to submit some for that, we have some bare walls in the basement that could use some artwork.

I'm not sure if my cheap scanner can do it justice. The top one is the Metallic. It's printed on what appears to be standard Kodak paper. The other one is a standard Glossy print than is printed on Endura paper.

Looking at the two photos side by side the metallic photo makes the colors really pop more than the standard glossy one. Again, My scanner probably has not done the metallic print any justice here.

I've done prints on metal from 3 companies.
Mpix came out great.
Metal Murals does 12" squares. I did a 3x2 panel 36"x24" image that came out unbelievable.
Adoramapix was terrible. They messed with the black levels and ruined the details.

If the feature was available in their order engine, did you specify to not do any color correction or enhancement?

Metallic prints work great- for some images. I stopped offering them through my site recently though. On certain images the metallic paper looks amazing...on others it looks cheesy and unprofessional to me. I only offer Lustre now. I will say that I found BayPhoto much better in general than AdoramaPix.

I went to one of the Peter Lik galleries in Vegas last time I was there, the majority of his artwork is printed on metallic paper. It's pretty impressive when you're standing in front of a 36"x48" canvas that reflects all the highlights, especially with how they have the lights setup. I would recommend checking out his galleries if you ever have the chance!
