Are you Following the thread? This will give you updates when new content id added.

In the case I am referring to, it depends.

Here's the use case: I view a thread posted in one of the Photo Sharing sections.

Scenario 1: I post to that thread and subscribe. I then can follow updates to the thread via "New & Followed". Great! However, 2 days later if I'm back in the same section I can't tell if I've already viewed that thread or not, so I end up opening it again as I go down the list... not realizing I've already viewed the content.

Scenario 2: I view the content but don't make any comment, and thus don't care to subscribe. Again, 2 days later if I'm back in the same section I can't tell if I've already viewed that thread or not, so I end up opening it again as I go down the list... not realizing I've already viewed the content.

Previously, I could tell (via hotlink color) which threads I have visited and which I have not - regardless of scenario or others activity.

Still trying to figure out how to tell which threads I've visited before... particularly when there has been activity on the thread since I viewed it.

I can which threads I have not viewed - thread title bolded
and those which I have viewed all posts - marked as "all seen"
but can't tell on a thread that I have viewed that has had activity since I've visited - I think these are also bolded ??

Dark versus light blue and bold versus regular weight are used to distinguish seen from unseen, but I haven't memorized their meanings. I find the words in the right-hand part of the wide middle column easier to use. For threads you've viewed since POTN switched to the AMASS! platform, those little notes are straightforward. Here's a sample, annotated in red.

The glitch that may be throwing you off is that a user's place in a thread viewed on Old POTN wasn't kept during the changeover. I had to find my place manually in threads I knew I'd viewed. Once you do that and catch up with a thread, "all seen" and "first unread" become reliable.

Will there be an option to have more posts on a page? I liked having 40 posts on a page and having less pages, instead of having less posts and more pages. Using this thread as an example there are 437 posts and 30 pages. If I was able to change my option to display 40 posts per page, there would only be 10 pages to look through.

Yeah, I guess it's such little variance between them that it's really hard to tell them apart. Even in your screen shot above, I guess the first one is dark blue, but not bolded... the second is dark blue and bolded, and the last it light blue and not? bolded? I think I got that right.

I do get the notations on the right, but on my 23" 1080p monitor, I end up looking like I'm watching a tennis match going from thread title to note through an entire page. I guess, my recommendation is for a greater difference.

Personally, I wouldn't care at all if the ALL SEEN and SAW SOME were colored/bolded the same - but left the notations as is for those. But simply have a greater difference (in color preferably) for the threads that have never been read - those are the ones that I care about most when I go back to a section. I want to see what's new. The others, I search for and find via subscription (New & Followed).

I'm using Chrome and I get a new tab when I click a link automatically. Maybe it's a browser setting?

Ok.. it worked this time on an outside link.. but I still get the tab replaced by a link within POTN, which didn't happen in the past.. Sorry I've been offline and I'm just getting back to you.

I'll try for a bit more and return with my results.. ;-)a

I have not changed any browser settings, and it has been happening on 2 desktops and my laptop .. *shrug*

Thanks for the help T.D. and vipergts

I have been reluctant to ask….But since there is a bit of talk about "searching"….I must say I have had no luck using the search tool with the new format. It is likely too sophisticated for my feeble mind. Can we not search within a specific thread/forum any longer? Is there a post/thread anywhere that might walk me through how to use this tool?

I'm having similar issues mate. As an example I was trying to find the 135L lens sample thread and no matter what I type it doesn't seem to appear in the list. Not too sure what I'm doing wrong but I assume it's a mistake at this end

Search 135mm and you'll get plenty of hits including the sample thread. The sample thread is name "Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM" so there is no "135L" there.

Always try the keyword in text or title, there is a small symbol between the fields to let you swap them. I found the above thread by searching text for 132L in forum "Lens Sample Photo Archive", there were plenty of hits on the top from those sample threads.

If you search for a title globally (without any filters) first, you can drag forum names and usernames from the search results to the respective filters to narrow your search. You can also drag name labels between "threads by" and "posts by".

Can someone please explain how the new "Members" list works? For example, I am classed as a "Senior Member", but when I click on senior members on the members list, I am not there.

Thanks Pekka, but what does (no posts: not included) mean?

It means if a member does not have any posts, he/she/it is not included in the member listing page.

Must be precisely why I can't figure it out after being here for 5 years.

This is a little weird color scheme between the bold, dark blue, and light blue
as far as what has been viewed and what not. If I click on a Bold dark blue
unseen thread to read it, then go back out to the thread list, the title will be
dark blue not bold(but has been read/seen). If I click on the same thread again
with no new posts(dark blue at this time), exit back to the forum list and now the thread
title is light blue.
