Just so you know, the mixture of the metric system and odd measurements like stones and pints and what have you, is strictly UK, okay? In continental Europe it's all strictly metric. Although I'm not sure about some of the eastern European countries...

Metric is so easy and logical that I'm sure the USA will some day follow suit. Star Trek is metric too. Just saying...

 :p

this is what they told me when I was in grade school, .. in the 1970's!

It's B.S. It's not going to happen. I don't know WHY, , it could, it should, but it won't.

Canada 'supposedly" is all Metric, but they lie! Sure the gas is in liters, the roads kilometers, the food in kilo's BUT, walk into a lumber yard and BAM the metric system disappears! 2"x4" boards 8 feet long, 4 foot by 8 foot sheets of plywood. ( heck even in Europe they sell it in 5' x5' )
Wanna know how thick the sheetrock is? 1/2". 5/8" and 1/4". That's how thick it is. Wanna buy joint compound? It's right over there in the 5 gallon bucket. Sure that has the metric number on it too, but it's STILL 5 Gallons!

And last time I bough them there, the nails were still measure as 16p (16 penny)

Just so that you know, the U.S. went metric many years ago, but most people aren't aware that they are actually using metric. How did this happen, you might ask? About a half century ago, the FPS system of measurement was redefined in terms of SI units. This meant that the inch was now precisely 25.4 millimeters instead of very close to 25.4 mm. BTW, it would be worth mentioning that the SI system of measurement isn't exactly "pure" in its adherence to base 10. How many hours in a day? Minutes in an hour? Degrees in a circle?

Scientific disciplines have used the SI system and its predecessors for more than a century in some cases. SI units aren't engraved in stone because they occasionally are redefined when technology presents a more precise method of measurement.

Will the FPS system eventually fade away? Probably, but the same thing might be said about SI units in the distant future. Electronic calculators/computers have actually given new life to the FPS system because of the ease of converting between systems of measurement.

L:love:ve that movie.

So me and my fiancé had a debate at the end of the movie...When the mini Groot was growing in the flower pot...was that the real Groot growing back from one of his branches or do you think it was more of an offspring?
