Nice. I want to see more. ;)

After a whole lot of reconsideration, I have decided to give this lens priority in my purchase plans. It's just too nice to have the three FE zooms at hand (16-35, 24-70, and 70-200).

I did. When Canon announced the 5DS R and the EF 11-24mm f/4L, I was greatly tempted by them...even had the 5DS R on pre-order until this past weekend. So I had returned the FE 70-200mm until I finally decided what direction I wanted to take my kit. A 5DS R and 11-24L is a major budget decision! But, after much thought (a days and days of vacillations) as much as I would love to have a 5DS R and an 11-24L, I have come to the decision to go with a Sony-only kit (camera-wise).

So that brings me back to the gear plans I had prior to the February Canon 5DS R and 11-24L distraction. :-D

It means that I will now go forward with my previous plan to have the three FE zooms and three (or four) FE primes.

Hopefully that makes sense. :)

Nice. So as it stands now, judging by your sig, you are still missing the 70-200/4 for the zooms. You gonna get the 55, 28 and 90?

Swap out the 28 for the FE 35mm f/1.4 (which arrives tomorrow!) and you've got it. :)

I also previously had the FE 55mm f/1.8 as well, but couldn't bring myself to sell my Otus 55mm f/1.4. The Otus is sort of like Frodo's ring to me...I can talk about getting rid of it, but have absolutely no will power to make it happen! So, it initially felt redundant to have two 55mm's and I returned the FE 55mm.

However, a lot of photographers have far more than one 50mm lens, so why can't I have a couple of 55's? Same thing at 35mm. I love the diminutive size of the 35mm f/2.8, but I also want the f/1.4 model. Same focal length, but very different lenses. So, hopefully my FE prime kit will be 2@35mm, 55mm, and 90mm (four total). We'll see. :)

I think Sony has an FE 85mm f/1.8 in the works, so that could be interesting to consider as well.

Nice. I'll be curious to hear what you think of the 35/1.4 in comparison to the 1.8. The size of the 1.8 alone makes it almost a guarantee first buy for me once I go Sony. I'm kinda torn between going all primes or zooms, either way, my first lens would be either the 24-70 or the 35. And then expand from there if I like the Sony system (I say all this having never actually owned any of the A7 series).

Thanks much! Yes, got it in the week before last. I may not have my whole lens lineup figured out yet, but do feel quite settled on the three FE zooms. They are indeed overpriced, as you've said, but it makes me happy to have them all the same.

Today I mainly walked around with the 70-200mm on the a7S and the 16-35mm on the a7R (with a little 35mm f/2.8 thrown in as well). I would have brought the 24-70mm, but wanted to have a limit of three lenses for the outing.

Those are all really nice "down on the farm" shots David. I'd say both your new 70-200 and tiny 35mm lens are working very well for you.

I had a long shoot with the 24-70 today, and I also brought my Canon EF 16-35/4. The subject was WA landscape stuff, so I thought I'd get some good exercise on both lenses. I have to say, even after correcting with the FE 24-70 lens profile in LR, I still feel like the distortion is not quite entirely gone. (Looking at the horizon line in the ocean, where it should be as straight as can be, and either my eyes are deceiving me, or it's not).

That's neither here nor there though. What did strike me as the outstanding DR on this Sony sensor, compared to my Canon's (I went back to shoot a spot that I've shot with the 6D many times). I'll post results after PP (and in the appropriate thread).

Thanks much Gene. It is gratifying to know that the FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS can deliver great detail. Although the upcoming FE 90mm macro and the newly announced Zeiss Batis 85mm look very appealing I am sufficiently satisfied with the 70-200mm to skip those if budget won't permit. On the other hand if budget does permit, well.....:D

The only reason why I haven't gotten the FE 70-200 G yet is because I seldom use that focal length range for some reason so when I do, I just use my Canon. I should just sell it and get the Sony and be done with it. :-)

Is the Sony version significantly lighter than the canon equiv f4, not 2.8)?
If not, there's really no point.
Those Batis lenses are both on my list now. Definitely wanting to focus more on a prime lens lineup w the Sony. I'm kinda done w zooms, hehe.
