Going to be shooting with the 400mm 2.8 II on Saturday but there's rain in the forecast.

Taking a look at the rain gear, anyone have experience with both LensCoat and Think Tank rain covers that can recommend one or the other. The TT one is $170 + I have to get a separate eye piece it looks like.

Any other suggestions/recommendations? :)

Thanks in advance!

I use the ThinkTank Hydrophobias. Outstanding protection. Yes you do need to buy the additional eyepiece. Expensive yes. But like many things in life, you get what you pay for.

If this is only an occasional requirement and you're not expecting a deluge, then an inexpensive cover such as the Vortex Storm Jacket (external link) may be all you need. I keep one in my bag for use with a 400/2.8 and it has worked fine so far. Obviously it isn't the quality of the ThinkTank product.

Pat, I like that in a quick pinch. What size are you using with the 400mm?

Welp, I ordered the optech mega and large sleeves from B&H on last Tuesday. I'm used to them shipping things out the next day so I was hoping it would so that it would get here by Friday but it looks like the free shipping they offer now doesn't get shipped out the next day.

So I cancelled that and ordered the TT Hydrophobia 300-600 from Adorama on Wednesday that offered expedited shipping, again hoping they would ship it out the same day since it was "expedited". No luck, had to cancel that too.

Weather forecast had been saying rain all day and all night, 70% chance. So Saturday afternoon before the game, I dropped by the local camera store that had the optech sleeves I was going to order from B&H and bought those.

Not surprisingly, it did not rain at all during the game.
