Roughly 3 years ago a member posted a photo of the train and it made me think about trying a similar shot. This year I remembered to check the schedule on time, the weather forecast was good & I had time to scope out a few places to get the shot I had in my mind. It was a good thing I did that because I needed a much wider lens than I had expected, a 35 mm instead of a telephoto. There was no way to practice so I decided on Av mode, no EC and started at f2.8 & ISO 6400. I quickly learned the shutter speed was BAD so opened up to f1.4 & did my best before the locomotive was blocked as it finished crossing the bridge. I shot in RAW & did what I could but I wish I could tone down the blown out areas around the bright lights. If I get to do it again I'll try another technique & use at least 2 cameras & maybe an even higher ISO.

Thank You. We had intended to go to where it was stopping but by the time I got my photos the road was bumper to bumper for at least 4 or 5 Kms (that we could see) so I put my signal light on to go the other way. Eventually a car let me do that but I'm not sure one would let me join the parade. When leaving town I realized the bumper to bumper traffic was WAY longer & more passed us as we left the area. I doubt they all got parked before the train moved on.
