I've had a look at some of the latest LG monitors and they seem every bit as good as the Eizo Coloredge series, while having higher resolution and a better aspect ratio for working with panoramic photos.

With aspect ratios of 17:9 or 21:9, though (as opposed to the more-common 16:9 or 16:10) how will they work for everything other than Photoshop?

If I try to watch a video or play a game on the same monitor, will most software be able to handle it and either run it at a non-standard aspect ratio or letterbox the output, or will the game/video simply appear 'stretched'?

I've never seen a monitor with the 17:9 ratio but I know of 21:9 (I kinda want one but the LG stands are disappointing plus I am waiting till after CES at the start of Jan) but for example if you are watching a 16:9 movie or tv show on a 21:9 aspect then you will get black bars on the left and right. This is because 21:9 is wider than 16:9. Any widescreen movie that you watch will be full screen.

As for apps this doesn't matter. if the app is maximized then it will take up the full screen. With a web browser taking maximized then you are going to get some blank space to the left and right of the image. it's a simple fact that websites don't resize very well to a 16:9 format let alone a 21:9 aspect.

For Photography tho, photoshop will work fine. You will get more working area. You will just have to move the mouse more distance.

Some games support this aspect ration as well.

By going in to a shop you should be able to see this yourself and I would recommend doing this. Just so you know what your getting.
