So this guy was going to sell me a MacBook pro for steal at $175 yesterday. Then he texts me this morning and says he accidentally erased the OS last night and the disc drive doesn't work so I will have to install it on a flash drive. Since I cant install from a disk ive been looking on EBAY for a bootable USB with an OS. Is this worth all the hassle? It supposedly a 2010 13in MacBook pro 4gb ram, 2.4GZ with 250GB HD....thoughts? Im supposed to meet him at noon any info would be awesome

Sorry, this sounds like BS to me. It is virtually impossible to "accidentally" erase the OS from a Mac computer. You have to boot from a different volume then launch Disk Utility to erase the other boot volume. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I would exercise caution when buying this computer. It may really be a "steal".

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

To answer your original question, it's easily worth the hassle. If you have another Apple computer or know someone with one, it's very easy to create bootable flash media from it.

But as you already answered, it would probably be smartest to pass on the laptop.
