Anyone using Amazon's Cloud Drive for photo backup?

I currently have an Amazon Prime account, and recently noticed a "new benefit" - Amazon Cloud Drive storage. Prime members get free unlimited photo storage . I've been looking at offsite storage options and this one adds to the option list. Just curious if anyone's started down the road with this choice and can offer any feedback, good or bad. Thanks!

I've started uploading my photos, but have to admit it's not very comfortable (yet) to use on a MAC. Basically my regular storage for non-picture files filled up really quickly, I assume due to some incompatible files, such as movies etc. But using the browser access, there is no easy way to filter what is in the photo library and what files are not recognized as photos and therefore take up your regular cloud space. Also, there is no resume upload feature via the browser access. So you basically have to re-initiate the upload again every time. This may all work much better in the dedicated apps, but I have not had a chance to test that yet.

Thanks for sharing. I'll have to check it out. The only Prime benefit I've taken advantage of so far has been the zippy shipping.

however its not for professional use, so if you are uploading business photos to the site technically you are in violation. I would be hard pressed to upload the several hundred gigs to Amazon from the weddings I've shot.

It's a nice free benefit, but you have limited control compared to other cloud solutions so I still prefer those. You basically drop everything into a bucket and it sorts them for you, there's no way to maintain the folder structure that you use locally. It's more of a last resort since you'd have to reorganize all your folders during a restore (compared to OneDrive, Google Drive, Bitcasa, etc where you could just drag and drop everything in one move and have everything restored exactly as you had it before).

Still, you can't beat free if you already have Prime and want to save a few bucks compared to the other cloud storage options.

Thanks to all for the replies so far. On my requirements list is folder structures and ability to store raw files, so it looks like based on responses that I won't even hit both of those. Still planning to play around with it a bit but my expectations aren't too high at this point.

You can store raw files. As far as I could tell it recognized and accepted Canon, Sony and Olympus files. But the (lack of a) folder structure is a huge issue for me as well.

With RAW files, I know that Smugmug uses SmugVault, that utilises Amazon's cloud drive system and you can upload any kind of photos with a file structure if i can remember for storage through that. Yes it will cost a little extra (on top of your sumgmug subscription), but not much in the grand scheme of things (basically a pint of beer or two a month equiv). But if you have super precious raw files, AND you have a smugmug account, that is one way to go.

I've started to use this just as a extra emergency backup, as said above it is limited in its capabilities.

Just noticed this feature today, guess I'm late to the game!

According to the thread below it doesn't look like it is designed for a typical automated backup/sync process, has anyone found otherwise?

I use Microsoft OneDrive only for sharing with family/friends - I delete after a month or so. OneDrive has normal file structure that you control. It also has a Private/No-share setting which I use for private data. I can email a public folder link to a smartphone and it can view all the pics in that link. It's cool not have to take up phone storage space and still be able to show lots of pics.

Google Drive can also be used, but I've used that only for active online documents, spreadsheets, etc.

I started using it, but it's impossible to do any sort of organizing in it. Basically it's just one single folder that could potentially contain all of one's photos. I'd have a hard time sorting through them and trying to figure out which photos belong where.

On the other hand, SmugMug is excellent as far as the offsite backup as well as storage.
