We are going to Vancouver in June. I will be solo in Vancouver for a few days while my husband works (poor baby). After that, we would like to drive out to a park and spend a few days exploring. Any suggestions about where to start my research? We've visited Olympia/Ranier/Mt St. Helen's before. He's been to Banff and wouldn't mind going back. I'm wondering is June too early to hike there?

There's the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Ladner, just south of Vancouver. Might be interesting.

Banff is nowhere close to Vancouver.

Thanks, Reifel looks promising.

We were actually planning on driving to a park and spending a few days, which is why I mentioned Banff.

Also consider the Great Blue Heron Preserve in Chiliwack. The area around Hope is nice. There's Bridal Veil Falls, Thacker Marsh, Manning Provincial Park, and so on. I'm not an expert on the area, but I have visited these places.

Banff is around 9 hours behind the windshield one way from Vancouver. There is tons of great scenery along the way. Do it if you have the time.

Sandhill Crane taken earlier this year at Reifel (pronounced Rifle).

Hi, a couple of other places worth checking out are:

Squamish Gondola

Steveston Village

Capilano Suspension Bridge

If you want to go on a nice, scenic drive, then Manning Park is a few hours away.

If you're looking for parks, there are a number of provincial parks just North of the city as well - Squamish and Whistler area. It depends what you're after really. Most of them will be mostly free of snow by June, unless you're planning on getting well into the alpine.

If you can provide a rough idea of what you're after (day hikes, overnighters, etc), I might be able to offer a few more detailed descriptions and suggestions :)

If you have a few days I would suggest heading onto the west coast of Vancouver Island to Tofino and Ucluelet. Great raw ocean scenes and in June you'll have endless sunsets.

A good early morning trip would to out to Steveston harbor to walk around the fishing vessels. Always some nice intimate photos to be had here.

June is also a very good time for Whale Watching out of Tofino/Ucluelet. There is also Victoria and an incredible car show in Qualicum Beach on Fathers Day.

Some great ideas here. I might also recommend taking the gondola up to the top of Grouse Mountain. Great view of the city, ocean and mountains from there. Last time I was up there, there were also some excellent chainsaw carvings.

We were looking for moderate day hikes. Lots of great suggestions here that I will have to research. Sorry I kind of dropped off the forums, been slammed at work.

A beautiful place is Butchart Gardens on Victoria Island. You can get there on a ferry from Vancouver.
