Ive been sent this image by a good friend and she asked me to see if I could save it.

Im not sure whats happened here, can it be saved?

Im using lightroom and PSCS6

Feel free to edit and let me see the results.

She is more than happy for me to use the image to try and save it.

Here's quick edit in photoshop.
Layer corrections used in order: -> levels (adjusted individual RGB slider) -> Curves(set white balance using the dropper and selecting whites and black on the image) -> Hue/Sat to remove some left over Purple cast on the dress (blue set to -70) -> Color balance (remove some red from mid tones) -> Curve (S curve in Screen blend mode at 25% opacity) for contrast.

After that you can still do some more to bring out detials, reduce noise and sharpen.

Hope that helps.

Here is an unedited, rough recovery of the image (ignore the posterization in the dresses for now).

The image looks like it was a raw file that does not have the black level subtracted and it also appears to have the mask pixels included along the top and left edges. This kind of image can be produced in Raw Digger and exported as a TIFF. See if the person who sent you the image has the original raw file.

Here is an example of a raw image that has not had its black level subtracted or its masked pixels hidden.

How old is that software? And what is it (ACR?). I would try using LR or CaptureOne.. this reminds me of trying to open a raw file using software that hasn't had that camera profiled yet. Get the RAW file and open it yourself.

It is a raw file opened in raw digger. I posted the example to show the op what may have caused the problem with the image s/he was given. If the raw file was opened with the incorrect black level, you get the look of the image that was posted.

Raw Digger is an application that permits visualization of a raw file.

Google it on the Bing.

I'm not sure I could coax much more out of the image than this. The JPEG compression is destroying the already disintegrating purple dresses near the bottom of the frame.

The image is in Adobe RGB - the bluish purplish dresses are flirting with disaster in sRGB.

Too much purple....

Since everyone else is having a go, I thought I would too.

A few minutes in Elements 2.0 (The one that came with my 10D)

Did a "color cast" correction using the light areas in the right background as "white", then auto color, auto contrast. This blew out the background out the window on the left, so I reprocessed it for the outside and folded that background into the primary shot.

Since there is no way of knowing what the original "purple" of the dresses are, I did not bother with them, instead I kept my intention on bringing out the realistic skin tones.

After that just some spot dodging and burning.

Maybe 10 minutes of farting around.

Rad
