OK, i5 it is, I really want 8GB RAM and do not think 256GB will be a problem as I do not intend to store too much locally (I will add my microSD from the RT too).

One question, does this thing come with a recovery solution? I mean SSDs are prone to cack up (happened to me with a Samsung) so "What if?"...

Thanks for all the answers so far!

There's always Microsoft backup and recovery option but that's it that I know of. I have Acronis to back up which I will need to do.

Well, got Lr and PS up and working. Seems pretty quick too. Type 3 keyboard seems to be missing the mouse buttons, left right, so you have to touch screen if you need a left click, seems and odd omission. Also keyboard is nice but noisy if sloped, not having a solid base. Small bugs but not problems.

Pen I guess I will get used to. Weird thing, my settings I just saved on the pro like cursor thickness have been applied to my RT...

Will test USB port tomorrow.

They save Windows 8 user preferences to OneDrive (external link); you'll also find your wallpaper there, if you change it on one. Thanks to Windows Secrets (external link) for pointing this out.

The keyboard still has right and left click. Pretend the right click is the bottom left and click down and it works. It's like the Apple touch pad and newer style touchpads found in other laptops.

The USB3 expansion with RJ45 is pretty sweet. Don't go for the Microsoft one. Go for this one http://www.amazon.com …sr=8-5&keywords=usb3+rj45 (external link)

That is what I bought and I like it. Slightly Slower when copying to multiple USB items but it's expected since it's just going though one USB3 port. It's not slow like double the time but slightly slower.

You can also "right click" by tapping anywhere on the touch-pad with two fingers at the same time.

You don't need to use OneDrive at all with a Surface 2 or 3 if you don't want to. I log onto my device using a 4 digit passcode instead of my Microsoft account. The only thing I save to OneDrive is my OneNote notebooks.

Will check out the double finger thing later, thanks guys. Lots to learn even though I already did this once with the RT :|

When I tried importing a single RAW from my User folder it found loads of JPGs, must by on the oneDrive. :| Kind of freaked me out for a second.

Interesting, I didn't know about the double finger tap either.

Anyone messed with the sensitivity of the touchpad on the keyboard? I think the biggest problem that I have right now is using the attached keyboard, the cursor will jump to where the mouse is on the screen. That at least is the most often occurring problem.

After having it for about a week, I do like the suggestion about having a bluetooth keyboard if working in photoshop (I think I read that on here). That way you can position the screen where you need it, and still have the keyboard available for shortcuts (which I use all the time).

Also, do you guys always/often have more than one usb item plugged in? Other than importing pictures, the only thing I typically use the USB for is the wireless mouse.

Wish I had more time to goof around with it and get things setup on it.

EDIT: I also set it up to use the pin, but mostly because I am lazy like that. 4 digit pin with the on screen number pad is FAR easier to get in quickly than the "strong" password used for the Microsoft account.

Just tried copying from CF to SSD via 2 differnet hubs, neither worked. Did copy from SSD to CF however :( Will try again tomorrow with the Lexar reader. However copying from CF straight to the Surface is fast, waaaaay faster than between devices.

I don't have any CF but copying from External HD to SD card gave me no issues from the same hub. I was able to copy a 1.3GB ISO file from my External HD to my SD card with no issues.

This Microsoft page shows you the target areas for the different keyboard touch-pads and goes over all of the different gestures you can use to speed things up, including the two finger tap for right click:

There si the Thing, I copied 300 plus RAW files from SSD to CF.... but cannot do it the other way around. Plugged in or using battery. Nada. A srious weak point if Microsoft want to push this as a laptop replacement anytime soon.
