Confused.....
Say a Surface Pro 3 i5 256gb lands in my lap tomorrow.
I have LR5 but cant find the disk even if I ever had one.
How do I load LR5 onto it?
Thoughts/clues appreciated.

You will need the disk and a external disk drive to load it. I picked up Adobe CC and downloaded Lightroom and Photoshops.

Rhchan84 thanks for the answer. Say I go CC that is all downloadable e.g. no need for drives or disks correct? And just to make sure, once downloaded I don't need connectivity to process but only to update, correct?
I appreciate your support . We're headed to Bestbuy tomorrow to actually hold the SP3. We are aging but headed to s.America for a month and everything has to ride on the back the whole time. I just added a micro 4/3s system to save weight and the laptop is next to go.

You don't need the disk. You can download the trial version of LR from Adobe then activate it with your product key.

I completely forgot about the trial downloads from what Palmor suggested. Do that before picking up CC. And yes CC doesn't need internet all the time. I actually disabled CC during startup and I didn't turn it on for about three weeks. Talking to Adobe, they said to open up CC at least once a month to verify and check for updates.

I travel a lot for my job and carrying the SP3 makes it easy since I have a work laptop too.

Just let us know if you have any other questions.

Also one more thing to look for is a Y-USB cable where there are two Male ends and one female ends. It's good for CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Drives and will provide the power to power those devices. One Male end is the data end and some power and the other end is for power only and you can also pick up an extension to plug into the power adapter to give your USB drives more power. That is one thing about the SP3, the USB are low voltage. I have to use that for older external HD and for my External Blu-Ray drive.

Do you happen to have an amazon link to that Y cable. If it is further back in the thread I can read for it. Thanks again for this info. I just watched a YouTube of an SP3 user working LIghtroom and it looks totally useable.

Light room is perfectly fine but the only downside is the pen and there's no way to customize the buttons like a Wacom but overall, pretty good.

Here is the Y cable that I use. Not the same one but very similar

Here is the extension that I use with the Y cable that run alongside the charger

Perfect. Thanks. Now one more request please. Can you recommend an SSD IN THE 280GB realm for use with the SP3. You really are helping prevent me from reinventing the wheel eerrr waisting a lot of time and money.
A scenario to comment on if you think the SP3 canhandle. SP3 plugged to AC power in dock. I come in hotel and pop compact flash cardinto the reader. I'm tired and don't want to developed or process, all I want to do is copy the files over from compact flash to external SSD. This with SP3 with i5 and 256gb on board.....should just be waiting game I'd think. Next morning Ill select the keepers and process a bit.

It only has one USB so the best way, the way I do is the USB3 expansion hub. http://www.amazon.com …ID=51-H431CSML&ref=plSrch (external link)

This works way better when plugged into the USB Y cable to give it slightly more power.

Perfect solution.Thanks. maybe there should be a concise sticky of the part and pieces you've suggested for the next SP3 explorer such as myself :)

An SSD model that I'd recommend are Samsung SSDs. They are very long lasting and very fast.

This is the 250GB model: http://www.newegg.com …aspx?Item=N82E16820147376 (external link)

At the last minute I decided to go with the Dell XPS Touch 13 with the 256gb drive and an i5 brain.
Once I weighed the two it was very close considering the Surface's type pad....the ultimate deciding point
was simply the extra USB and knowing one of the USBs on the dinky Dell is a charging USB. Having two
allowed my on a most recent trip to s.America to have card reader in one and external hard drive in another
while bluetoothing the mouse.
