Yes that's what those things are called, they come in all sorts of colors and shapes. You really need a true macro lens behind a flat port(doesn't lose magnification of the water) to get good shots of them, these shots were all with a standard zoom with macro designation behind a dome port with(makes the lens see more like through air).

The start of the canyon is right off La Jolla, it get's extremely deep realy fast if you take look at Google earth you can see out in the ocean. Most people dive it from La Jolla shores from Kellog park(pretty much any given day you'll see diver setting on the grass on the far side to the parking lot). It's a bit ironic that off the beach it gets very slowly, if you've even gone swimming I'm sure you noticed you had to go out quite far just to get neck high but once you fit the canyon you can find yourself extremely deep in no time.

If head a bit down the coast to La Jolla Cove the underwater terrain is more like those shots from Laguna.

Thanks. Even though it's probably the most drab(pretty much like a dessert) local dive location there's plenty of critters to be found.

How did you find the water that clear in La Jolla

I've confined myself to tide pools in Torrey Pines, but these are great! Awesome pic of the nudibranch.

I've don't a lot of dives from La Jolla shores and have had good visibility on all but 1 one dive which was also the worst I've ever seen(not much more than a foot). La Jolla Cove on the other hand has been the opposite for me, I always seem to go there during plankton blooms.

The tide pools make for some nice topside shots. I was planning on doing a bunch of shooting in Torrey Pines this past year but never even made there once. I'm hoping to make it next year, I really want to get some shots of the Falcons and some sunset of the cliffs.
