What flash do you use with your X camera? and does it work as well as you thought?

I use the Yongnou 560 III with a thirdparty canon flashcord, it does not function with TTL but i don't feel that i need it, especially not with a fixed lens.
The YN 560 III has a built in reciever (so basically you only need one wireless trigger), works as optical slave, works on camera and also with flashcord.
The price is great and you get a powerful flash for 1/3 of the price for a similiar Canon flash.

I have used Yongnuo before, but I switched to an even cheaper brand, but still use Yongnuo triggers to fire my speedlights off camera. I switched to Neewer b/c during weddings and being in the dark, or while the lights are up high on stands, I can quickly power up/down without looking. Also, assistance found the Yongnuo difficult to adjust. I'd ask for a stop down or "lower the power two times" and I would end up with a zoomed in/out flash head instead of different power. With these, its just "press +/- once" lol.

Back to using them with my X100, it works great every time. I get great ring shots using my off camera flash and camera in macro mode. Cheap, easy and works great.

I use a LumoPro 180. Sometimes I trigger it with a Wein ir synch, other times I just wire it.

I have recently been playing with a 580EX2 in "auto" mode - Thryistor controlled mode (setup with a custom function)
And an old Olympus T32 (works the same way, thryistor controlled "auto mode" set the ISO and aperture on both camera and flash) on my X100

Off camera is handled with the 580EX2 and an older 580EX - triggered in manual mode by a set of PW TT5 and TT1 (or a short canon OCF cable, when i want to wind the shutter speed right up and shoot wide open - love the X100's leaf shutter)

I've used a few studio strobe systems with my Fuji, but my personal preference is the YN 560 III flashguns. I have a few of them and use the RF-602 to trigger, although I'm interested in picking up the 560-TX. Ideally, Fuji will put together a decent flash offering with modern bells and whistles, some of which would hopefully come in more compact sizes than full size flash guns.

My 430EX seems to work perfectly, though I've never tried it in remote and basically have a very limited understanding of what you can do with a flash :).

Then get out there and start experimenting :)

I use the same flash as well as the older v2, both work excellently :) I've never used a flash with TTL (nor felt the need to) so I don't miss it. I will admit that I'm still a noob with flash work though, I try to practice as much as I can and I'm definitely improving, but I still get amazed at what other photographers pull off.

I've been meaning to pick up the III model, have a couple of the IIs. There's even a V model already out already!

I want to get it with the dedicated transmitter that lets you adjust power from the camera, biggest pain with the IIs is having to adjust power at the flash.

I was in a camera store where the salesman showed me a flash sync unit of some sort, it had display and you could remotley set all your flashes. It was Pretty cool. Price was good aswell, around $50.

TTL is great for running around at party's shooting in changing lighting conditions. Other than that, I see no real need for it. I cant speak for Fuji, but Canons ETTL exposure algorithm is pretty decent.

I could definitely see it being useful for wedding or event shooters. For me though, I just set my ISO somewhere in the mid range like 400-800 and use that as my base with the flash set around 1/4-1/8 power (for faster recycle times) and then adjust my ISO as needed if the lighting changes, I find that works best for me... but as I said, I'm a relative noob when it comes to flash :)

Sunpak Autothyristor 26DX. Yes, it's 30 years old. Yes, it still works great!

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.
