24-70 L 2.8 II - Couldn't help myself...

So, I'm in Hong Kong on business & took the morning to wander around Stanley Street & mooch around some of the Camera shops with no intention of buying anything whatsoever & end up walking out with the 24-70L 2.8 II & an F-Stop Guru backpack with ICU...what happened...lol

I had the V1 for a month about 10 years back which was great but just too expensive, so back it went to Jessops, let's hope that this one's just as good, I've read good things & trust it's as good as I've read

Good on your Buddy, You won't be disappointed. It's so good..... when I got mine I sold 3 other L Lenses in the 24-70 focal range as they were just not getting used.

If it only had IS...

Of course, we would probably need a wheel barrow to carry it, but still.

The topics been done to death but I don't think adding IS would add that much more weight. Tamron have done it.

Thanks fella, I hope I'm not disappointed, next will be to upgrade the 70-200L 2.8 to the Mk II, perhaps later next year

Not many of my lenses do have IS, so I guess if I've not had it I won't miss it too much. If truth be told it was in fact a toss up between the F4 IS or the 2.8 & as I tend to shoot wide open in most cases it was a better choice for myself...

Is the lens cheaper in Hongkong? Just curious. How about warranty? Thank you.

This is the first lens in that range I have owned that did not have IS and I was really worried about it. I have not even noticed it does not have it.

or you can upgrade to the new sony cameras with ibis!

I'm old and my hands are getting shaky. After working on my technique and holding style, I've not thought of it very often. The IQ on this lens is just incredible!

I am the same. I have 5 lenses that I use and only one has IS on it.

Congrats! Since I have this lens it almost lives on my camera, except when I need longer or shorter focale. I got rid of everything in the 24-70 range except the 40 pancake. I've done exactly 98% of my honeymoon trip with it. So versatile it's not even funny

Regarding IS, with the high ISO qualities of the 6D I can manage to do handheld landscapes at night and still get pretty good results, so I'm happy about it. It would be practical to have IS, at least to reduce the ISO, but I can live without.

£1,070/$1,675 - so, for sure, even with the current rebates it was cheaper. As for Wty, it's from an Authorised Dealer, so standard HK Wty, not international. However, if there's a problem I can get it fixed in either UK/US for a fee, & if I'm honest, in all the years I've been playing at photography ive not had a faulty Canon lense...

Now I've said it...lol...

No plans to offload any of my primes yet...I like the fact that they're between 1.4 & 1.2 & love em, this just provides more versatility & hopefully will be a great travel lense

Just beware the rubber grip issue. Mine just came down with it but luckily it's still in warranty.
