$1,675 is a good price.

Warranty: I haven't used Canon warranty these years. But having one would give a piece of mind.

I just rented this lens for 2 weeks for a job. I had full intentions to buy it but wanted to rent first to make sure before dropping so much money on a lens...within 5 minutes of receiving the lens I was sold! Can see this becoming my main work horse lens for the next decade.

The rubber grips stretch and get loose.

I picked up the first gen of this lens in 2006 and still use it every time I shoot. Amazing lens and I only hear better things about the Mark II. Congrats!

Oh and who needs IS :D

I agree, & would've bought from Adorama with the rebate & a small discount & still been a good couple of hundred + bucks dearer, so I pressed the button ;-)a

I'm gonna hook it up tomorrow or Monday once the weather improves here & go have a play before heading back to Blighty Tuesday night, then I'm in London right by the London Eye for a couple of days where it'll get some use for sure. Can't wait to use it :-D

I think the Mk 1 I had must've been ~mid-late 2004 & I have some great shots of my daughter, at the time, I just couldn't justify keeping it after the 30 day trial... Let's hope that this one lives up to my past experience of the mk1 :-D

Just splurged on this beauty as well. Can't say enough about its magic. Incredible piece of glass, and worth every penny. I went back and forth in the store between the Tamron 24-70 and the Canon, and the Canon beat it hands-down in both image quality and focus speed.

So you were happy paying the difference in price then for the better IQ, I also looked at the Tamron @ ~$1,300 it was quite a bit less $$'s, but I didn't like it, I really like the Canon lenses so didn't defect...it was well worth the extra from my perspective ;-)a

That 24-70/2.8L IS is a great lens. I gave it to my friend to try (it had newly arrived on the market), and she bought one for herself a couple of hours later!

With the pound dropping a bit, shouldn't another lens purchase be made in hurry? Something like the 70-200/2.8L IS II?

Oh, and the guy at Kinefoto (on Stanley Street) told me last week a new shipment of 300/2.8L IS II has just arrived...food for thought at only about 3650 pounds...:)

I'd love to upgrade my mk1 70-200 2.8 IS, but just can't justify it at present... I actually found that Tin Cheung were MUCH better value regarding lense pricing & no cc fee either... I did look next door in Kinefoto & bought I few 1Dx's to take home...the Canon USB kits lol

Shame Kinefoto weren't prepared to work with me on the price...best they'd do was about HK$40 less on the lense PLUS 2.5% card fee which put them well over...

I used the Tamron 24-70 and just felt so cheap in my hands compared to the Canon. The build quality was lacking and the small zoom ring really wasnt to my liking. I guess everyone has different needs and budgets, but since I make a living off my photography, I will invest in the 24-70L II. Down the road makes the most sense. Only thing that sucks is the rubber wearing out too easily. I noticed it on my rental as well. Anyway to maintain it so it doesnt happen or its just the nature of the beast. I guess I should stock up on a few rubber rings when I finally buy the lens.

Thanks!

Interesting how you managed to wangle out of the cc fee. I shall need to pass by Tin Cheung. Didn't think of dropping by next door yesterday.

I spoke to the woman in there, she told me it was fully inclusive of the CC fee, then I gave her my AMEX & she said, "you have VISA?" To which I replied, "nope" & she said, "okay, card please!"

Job done ;)

I actually walked past it twice as it's quite a dark store & the bamboo scaffolding out front doesn't help...lol. But glad I went in. Best price I could find. They also got in the fstop guru from another store whilst I waited & threw in the 16-35l II 8gb USB that Kinefoto wanted $159HK for...

I'd wholly recommend Tin Cheung! Happy to crack open any lense I wanted to see too ;)

I went by Tin Cheung and asked about the 300/2.8L II IS

They gave me one price with credit card.

Then I asked if there was a cash price to which they took off about 40 pounds putting the lens about the same as kinefoto's price.

I think you got a great deal and better take me shopping with you next time!

Lol...I was really happy with the price, & much keener than next door, which I wasn't expecting based upon everything I'd heard elsewhere.

Anyway, I'm back first week in Feb, save your pennies & we'll get together for sure, I'll be doing likewise ;-)a
