So I'm considering a monitor as I am currently using a laptop screen for everything. It will be used for photography and video projects as well as my only screen for watching everything else as I don't have a tv.

My first idea was the Asus PA238Q. Wider color gamut, LED so I guess no viewing angle problems and nice reviews. I considered the 24" model but it's considerably more expensive ( about £100 ).

However I also looked at LG's wide screen monitors. The 29" is a bit over budget at over £300 but I found out that there is a 25" version that's about the same price as the 23" Asus. The wider display would be very handy for the software I use and possibly better for watching content but I can't find reviews of it and no mention of colour accuracy which is still very important.

What do you think ?

Available in the UK only please.

Have you looked at the Dell Ultrasharp U2412M? It's a very popular monitor, I have 4 of them and think they are a great bargain for the price. Each one is calibrated with a Spyder4Pro and the colors are very accurate between all of them.

I also recently picked up this monitor at Amazon for around $220 delivered. The 1920x1200 makes a nice difference and the screen looks darn good. May not be a wide gamut, but it is also quite a bit cheaper. If you are a pro photographer get a wide gamut. If you enjoy photography for family and sports this monitor is great.

With the non stop sales of dell Ultrasharp monitors you'll get a great deal when you wait for it. This is how I purchased a U27, 24 and 23 inch from dell.

Ips panels are the way to go for editing photos. I have 2 of my monitors calibrated with a spyderelite calibrator and when i do test pics at my pro lab the colours are spot on. Only concern is the adjustment of brightness.

I have looked at it now, it is slightly over budget but why go for that one over the P2414H for example ?
