Update: It seems to be the stupid Soapera browser: images load fine in Firefox. Opera uses their own proxies without asking you - I think you can turn that off there somewhere. It looks like FF doesn't like the images that are hosted on the server that hosts POTN....it's very aggravating. I'm still searching for an answer within the Firefox settings. Everything seems to work fine in IE. Scott

Thanks a lot for the info, it might be a plugin issue. I'll try disabling all of the plugins and see what happens. Scott

I have the exact same version of Firefox on my work laptop and my home PC and it works just fine here on my laptop PC (I can see forum-hosted images just fine without the hotlink prevention message). As far as I can tell, Firefox is configured the same for each system. I'm still digging.... Scott

I don't have Opera installed on this computer but I had it on my old one. Had one site I visited daily that had a DSN problem. Used to get on it with Opera. Opera only uses the Opera servers where you use the accelerator. Turn that off, and it will access sites the same as any other browser. Philip

I am stating this from memory, but if I remember right, you toggle that on and off by clicking on a small icon at the bottom left of the screen that looks like a small speedometer. That function is used to speed up sites on computers with dial up or very slow connections. Just turn it off and see if that helps. Would that be the 'Opera Turbo'? I have it already disabled. I didn't change any computer settings between implementation of this new site so I would think I should just be able to continue viewing everything previously available on the old site.

I'm not blaming the site developers but I would think they would know what has changed and how we can correct it, specifically, on our end. Thank you for any help. There is nothing mystical about it: linking to (i.e. embedding on other sites) or downloading the images we serve is prevented. It is called hotlinking prevention. We do it to prevent download and redistribution of uploaded images (attachments) as we try to prevent copyright theft and also protect data bandwidth stealing. The Forum Boss, El General Moderator
