Proxy? VPN? Cache? Anything that messes up referrers will get "hotlinking prevented".

Unfortunately hotlinking prevention is not in my code, it is the web server feature so I can not make exceptions to it, at least easily.

Nope, nothing of the sort. Unless it's the firewall.

I'll try on the Mac and report back.

Update: It seems to be the stupid Soapera browser: images load fine in Firefox.

Opera uses their own proxies without asking you - I think you can turn that off there somewhere.

I am also getting this notice when trying to view certain peoples pictures posted on the forum. How to I determine where to find the problem? I'm using Firefox if that matters.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I'm having the same issue with Firefox 34.0.5 as well. It looks like FF doesn't like the images that are hosted on the server that hosts POTN....it's very aggravating. I'm still searching for an answer within the Firefox settings. Everything seems to work fine in IE.

Thanks a lot for the info, it might be a plugin issue. I'll try disabling all of the plugins and see what happens.

No luck with disabling the plugins. I have the exact same version of Firefox on my work laptop and my home PC and it works just fine here on my laptop PC (I can see forum-hosted images just fine without the hotlink prevention message). As far as I can tell, Firefox is configured the same for each system. I'm still digging....

I don't have Opera installed on this computer but I had it on my old one. Had one site I visited daily that had a DSN problem. Used to get on it with Opera. Opera only uses the Opera servers where you use the accelerator. Turn that off, and it will access sites the same as any other browser.

I am stating this from memory, but if I remember right, you toggle that on and off by clicking on a small icon at the bottom left of the screen that looks like a small speedometer. That function is used to speed up sites on computers with dial up or very slow connections. Just turn it off and see if that helps.

Would that be the 'Opera Turbo'? I have it already disabled. -?

What about the Security Protocols? Do those have any impact?

That's what it is called. As for the protocols I never really changed those in Opera, so I can't say.

I can't believe that a moderator here can't tell us how to solve this issue? I didn't change any computer settings between implementation of this new site so I would think I should just be able to continue viewing everything previously available on the old site.
I'm not blaming the site developers but I would think they would know what has changed and how we can correct it, specifically, on our end.
Thank you for any help.

There is nothing mystical about it: linking to (i.e. embedding on other sites) or downloading the images we serve is prevented. It is called hotlinking prevention. We do it to prevent download and redistribution of uploaded images (attachments) as we try to prevent copyright theft and also protect data bandwidth stealing.

If you get the hotlink message, it means your browser does not load the images via the html source code we provide. In other words, the call to show an image does not come from our web server, so it is prevented. Where does the call come from, then? It may come from a proxy server, some kind of cache (web browser cache is not prohibited).

You can freely submit the problem you have to either http://litespeedtech.com/support/forum/ (external link) (the server software we use is Litespeed Enterprise) or some other site which can troubleshoot such issues.
