Just a short overview what is going to happen in near future

EDIT: SEE https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1411142

---------------

- post editor submit/cancel will be moved to the bottom right.

- top navigation area will be altered so that links positions do not float with page width, and there is a clearer organization. I was wrong to leave top area undone, and I'm sorry I did not make it look good before release.

- gear images that are donated in https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=17309244 will be handled and added.

- gear database additions and errors posted in https://photography-on-the.net …read.php?t=1409239&page=1 will get handled.

- The contents of FYEO will be "tabbed" so that you see each item at a time. That is the "conventional way" and I do not prefer tabs but I'm all for keeping you comfortable.

- PM link is moved inside FYEO (as PM tab), but PM notifications appear on every page as they do now.

- You'll get to choose if you want New & Followed go straight to Followed.

- You'll get to choose if you want to see the side gallery on forum page.

- font sizes will be re-evaluated.

MARK FORUM(S) READ will be added.

A choice to disable animations will be added.

The glasses icon will show on full size images, too (+ will be added to it if image does not fit current browser window).

I'll start working on optional color schemes, but first I'll fix the navigation and things above. The proper color scheme choosing is not a small code effort, as so much is integrated to dynamic elements and jQuery. After I'll do the work and then it's easier to make styles.

I'll also add MARK FORUM(S) READ command.

On to do list: email notifications, that might take a while. I would rather do a notification app :)

Several bug fixes will be done.

Search engine "deep indexing" for images will take still days, after that is done image searches will get proper results. After that is done all will stay in sync nicely.

I'm sure I forgot something... but there it is. Remember that I work alone, so speed is relative to that. We have all the time from now on to improve and make this better POTN for all.

@Pekka...dude you're getting this thing right.

The new format is growing on me. vB got nothing on this place.

Congrats on doing such a great job.

Looking forward to some of the enhancements/changes outlined in your OP.

I can't even imagine how much time and effort has gone into this project. Just to put it into perspective, next to Google, POTN is the single most important aspect of the WWW that applies to my personal web use. If it were to disappear, it would be quite close to life before the internet. I hope you understand that your work is the impetus to what has become a wonderful online community of photography enthusiasts. My hats off to you Pekka! :-D

Some of the changes in the list sadden me. Like changing FYEO to User CP. Why would you do that? User CP is vB speak. FYEO is a perfect name for what it is, plus it is different, playful and very much AMASS! and shouldn't be given up for a handful of people who apparently are too stuck in their way and can't handle "different". But they will get used to it and learn to love it!

Pekka, don't give in too easily to the complainers. They are the most vocal at the moment. You will not be able to please everybody. Make some of the changes and others will complain about those! What I see on the board is people posting the way they always have and learning to find their way in the process. And people are filling up the galleries with their images! The naysayers, the complainers, they will come around. They will adapt. Quite a few have already or are in the process of doing so. And they too are posting in their regular threads like before. Make some of the things optional, like the side images and the fonts, add functionality, like the Mark Forums Read and choosing default mode in New & Followed. Of course. But I am just really afraid that you will turn your beautiful and elegant AMASS into a vB lookalike.

I don't want to add to your troubles, but I had to get this off my chest.

Dec 04, 2014 02:09 as a reply to  @ Levina de Ruijter's post |  #7

I'm finding my way around. I still have a few things to figure out.. like why the meta data is stripped from my photographs. It doesn't seem to matter if I import from Flickr using the fetch tool or import them directly from "My Pictures". I did figure out how to add the meta data myself but some of the photos I want to add to my gallery are shot with the 70-300L lens which will be added to the gear list as time permits.

A second vote for keeping the "FYEO" moniker. I think it's fine.

I like the look of the new POTN. I find the regular font easy to read and I'm an old guy. As time goes on (and Pekka gets some sleep), I have no doubts the few minor things that need to be addressed will be. It might be a work in progress....... but it's already very fine. A few tweaks here and there: pretty impressive for a roll out of this magnitude.

Very well said Levina. You said everything here far better than I could have said. Thank you

Pekka just wanted to say thank you for all of your work! It is truly amazing. I also agree with Levina. Some things need to be adjusted but others could remain in the spirit of AMASS. It is what makes it unique. Interesting enough i do have a suggestion for the way MQ is working at the moment:

Currently you click and select all MQ's.

Then you click on Quote.

Then you click on Multiquotes to insert.

Instead of those additional clicks can we update this to how it was before? Meaning when you select your MQ's you can click reply or quote in the last MQ you selected and they all appear in your response already? I understand the feature of picking and choosing but the old way really streamlined this process. Leave the quote tools as an option but build back in the old way of quickly deploying them.

I agree with the others, let's not go so far as to make functionality and terminology match VBulletin, AMASS is unique, and a great foundation for something even better, don't dilute it with other opensource and paid product terminology. Once our bat cave is opened up again, perhaps we can carry on those discussions there.

I agree with the color themes, the post count, etc. We had brought these up during beta as well, I believe. Things that affect usability should be addressed, but labels, icons, fun graphics, they can remain unique to AMASS. People will get used to it, many already have, and even more now really like it, as we had noted at the go-live. :)

It's me I'm sure, but I really can't seem to get to grips with embedding multiple quotes in my thread replies...I seem to have to edit multiple times...what am I missing??

Definitely get some sleep,

This is the way it works currently:

Click on MQ on every post you want to multi quote.

Then click post at the bottom of the page to create a new post or hit reply to a post.

Then click quote on the left hand tool bar.

Then you will see an option that says "Multiquotes: Insert All" You could click on insert all or you can click the quotes below you have selected. You can also hover over the quotes user name to see an excerpt.

Hope that helps.
