I have been tasked with organizing an amateur photography contest. I won't be a contestant, nor will I be a judge - just the 'techie'.

Contestants will be allowed to upload 3-5 photos each, within 4-5 categories. Entries to be anonymous.

Due to bandwidth limitations of our local WiFi system, submitted image files will need to be small (let's say 1280 pixels on the long edge).

Any recommendations for free hosting for such a venture? Contestants would be provided with log-in info, but all uploads to be anonymous.

Probably looking at a entry deadline of mid/late January 2015.

High-resolution files, of the winning images, will be used to create prints that will be displayed in a community recreation facility.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The beginner clicks the shutter and says "Let's see what I got." ... The experienced photographer thinks "How can I capture what I see?"

Dropbox? For entrants to upload. You might need more than one account if you have a lot of entries or pay. Or they could just email you!

You could use google picasa for displaying the entries on the web - you can control access quite well. Flickr might work if public access.

Thanks Martin,

I'll take a look at those. I did think of one other issue - how to make sure that a submission can't be deleted by someone.

A good reason to use simple tech like email! You post the images on the website. Also means you get to vet the images for inappropriateness - obvious copyright etc.

I was also going to suggest Flickr. It gets rid of the bandwidth and storage limitation. You can create a invitation-only public group and have the contestants submit their photos that way.

I realize you said "free", but if you or someone has a SmugMug account, they have the ability to issue an "upload" link to a folder.

I've used it to allow a group of travelers share their photos with everyone else in the group.
