Simple question: where does one go to see threads on tripods, monopods and such?

I think we'll have to add one to General Gear Talk area: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php#GearTalk

Changes will happen, please be patient.

Now tripods are in accessories forums, and they deserve better (the tripods I mean) :)

OK, now I see that you placed the tripod threads in the Canon Accessories forum.

And yes, I agree that's not the best home for them; they should have their own forum in the General Gear Talk area. Someday. :-)

Your forum index is already diluted. Why dilute more? The forum index page is the longest index list I have ever seen on a forum .......... by far!!. {-------------That's an understatement:-(

Here is a rule you should go by in deciding if you should dilute a listing. Take (Canon accessories) for instance..... should be called camera accessories, but that's another story. Click it and you get thirty of the latest threads. If the last thread in the list is more than 24 hours old, there is no need to dilute the listing by splitting it up to things like bags, tripods, and whatever else ........ bag straps?

One point I'm making here is that if you have a question about tripods for instance you will get a much bigger audience if you ask that question in (camera accessories) than in just plain ole (tripods). It comes down to traffic, and you are reducing traffic to a point where you can't get help from a passing motorist because they are on another road.

Right now there are over a hundred people in (Canon EOS cameras) and it's not to busy at all. You won't find complaints here that it needs to be diluted to listing every EOS camera that Canon makes on the index page. It' a wonderful place to go ..........CUZ ......... that's where the action is.

You are flat out, without a doubt, bloating the index page to the detriment of all your members. Just my 2 cents.

I got little worried, because in Pekkas post, he was talking about expanding, and not reducing the index page. Something tells me he will get this forum spot on, because I've never seen anybody try so hard to be all things for everyone. Fingers crossed he actually is a God.:-D

I must respectfully disagree with you on a few of your points here.

1.
"Your forum index is already diluted. Why dilute more? The forum index page is the longest index list I have ever seen on a forum .......... by far!!. {-------------That's an understatement"

Well, that's just your personal opinion, either a forum is going to have a minimal number of items or as many as the designer thinks that will appropriately fulfill any members possible interests is the question, by having as many items in the index as there are can only be a good thing. The end result can only be good for the forum and it's members, as many possible questions leads to that many answers. There are more photo sharing categories than before, so each interest is more fine tuned to members interests. The section on Gear review has sub forums on each of the major brands so if you want to check out only Canon, it's right there, you don't have to go through one or two Gear review sections to find Canon only. I really don't see how the forum index is diluted ion the slightest bit. I see it as very well designed. If you could point out where you think it is diluted, I would sure like to see it.

2.
"Take (Canon accessories) for instance..... should be called camera accessories".

There are thousands upon thousands of camera accessories out the, how can listing Canon accessories by itself along with Sony, Nikon, all of them be diluting? It separates all accessories so that the brand each member prefers is an easier way to get the information that members want.

3.

Seems like you found exactly what you were looking for....

4.

I just don't see what you are saying in this rather harshly toned comment. I would bet that if you compared the index now to the old POTN index, the major differences are due to the fact that we are now welcoming cameras, lenses, whatever other than just Canon. The index to be longer, "longest" to make it easier for all members to get on the correct road that they need to be on.

One little thing as well, you've been a member for over four years and have posted 359 times, to me that says you are not really a very active member here and to take the tone that you have with all the work that Pekka has put into AMASS is quite out of line to say the least, He has been working on this almost as long as you have been a member, making this a totally unique and very nice forum which should also be considered when you are not happy with his forum regarding changing the layout of the forum index, just my 2 cents.

I think that the index is laid out very well and needs little, if any changes.

I know, I should have quoted so this looks as it really should but this has taken me too long already to figure out a response to your post and it has been a long day already.

My 2c: I don't think the index is too bloated, and I haven't even tried hiding forums yet. It does help to set the forum display to the short form, though.

I do think that with few exceptions, accessories could be lumped together, as they were in the old format.

Well, bear in mind that the old "Accessories" forum in vBulletin POTN was moved lock, stock and barrel to the Canon section of the gear forums. Some subsets have been broken out (flash, bags) to a general gear forum; others, like tripods and camera support, will follow.

If you have too many forums, at the top of the main page, click on "Short View", which will collapse the forums under a category to a line or so of subforum links. You can also, at the bottom of the main page, sort the filters however you'd like and hide any (like SONY) you really don't want to ever see again.
