Having haunted POTN for nine years, I suddenly cannot find my way around to fight my way out of a paper bag...

1. Why would you use "Permalink to this..." I have clicked this, but no observable result of having done so, and no instructions to be found on using this forum software (apart from this forum which is filled with other puzzled folks!)
2. If you want to copy someone's photo from their post, edit it with PS or Elements or whatever, then post the edited image in your reply...how do you even get to Save a copy of the original image?!

You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Keep POTN alive and well with member support https://photography-on-the.net/forum/donate.php
Canon dSLR system, Olympus OM 35mm system, Bronica ETRSi 645 system, Horseman LS 4x5 system, Metz flashes, Dynalite studio lighting, and too many accessories to mention

Permalink allows you to link to a specific post. If I Permalink to your post above, when you click it from my post it will bring me to yours. It's a great tool to use once a couple pages have gone by and you want to share a specific post, even between threads.

As to question 2. That never really worked with the switch to "Image editing OK" as people would toggle it on and off all the time. When you post a picture now it tells you to abide by the copyright of the copyright holder. So if you wish to edit a photo, ask permission as many did in the vBulliten software.

The point is not whether one has permission or not...the point is (assuming that the person who originally posted the photo explicitly has asked for and WANTS others to post their modified versions of his photo!) ... HOW TO DO IT?!
How to copy the photo so you can edit it?...there is no Right-Click, Save Copy like previously on POTN.

I believe that was disabled for copyright reasons.

previously there was the "image editing ok" under your name, that has been totally removed.

It sounds odd that the person who takes a photo no longer has a means of asking other more experienced photographers to show how their photo could be improved in post processing! A response by Pekka would be useful.

I see that it is official, according to my title...I am an old fart, no longer Cream of the Crop, apparently soured and curdled and beyond keeping around. But until I am pushed off the shelf I will continue to take up space. But in CA we are not cheese heads!

Permalink is no different from clicking on the post number in a thread on old POTN. You would click the number in the upper right corner, that would take you to a new page with only that post and you could then copy the URL and paste it where you wanted to give people a link to that specific post.
Permalink does the same. You click it, it gives you an URL for that post only and so you can copy that and insert the link in a post so people can click on it and go to that post.

2. If you want to copy someone's photo from their post, edit it with PS or Elements or whatever, then post the edited image in your reply...how do you even get to Save a copy of the original image?!

For now what you can do is make your browser window a bit smaller until you see the eyeglasses on the image (upper right). Click on them and the image is opened in a kind of light box. You can now grab it and drag it to your desktop. You can click the image again and you leave the light box and go back to the page.

There are now 2 reasons to have the glasses show all the time, I feel, instead of it being dependent on your browser width or those of us with huge resolution wide monitors that run our browsers full screen because our day job requires it: Perhaps just clicking the image would be sufficient, no glasses needed ever? If you want to hyperlink your image, just put the link under it.

1) To be able to get to the image quickly and help with post processing, etc.
2) To be able to use that nice easter egg

Touch of Title Fairy dust is the most prestigious award POTN has at the moment. Be proud! :-):-)

What if the member is allergic to fairies, or dust?
